Hey Ya'll! Clearly I'm new here, I run a 2016 1500. Upgrade wise, it's all appearance and function for me. I have a lift/level, 35" Nitto Terra Grappler G2's, 2" front reciever hitch (made a removable fishing rod/ cooler rack) just purchased a safari rack and light bar as well as a couple pods for rear lighting.

Now I have been a Dodge/Ram mechanic since I graduated Tech College in 2005. 12 years for Chrysler so I have a pretty good wealth of knowledge about the workings of these trucks. I just left and went to a heavy duty diesel shop so I'm still in the field of wrenching.

I will try to help anyway I can. If you're close I might be able to swing by and lend a hand.

Now, Ms. Vito, being an expert on general automotive knowledge, can you tell me... what would the correct ignition timing be on a 1955 Bel Air Chevrolet, with a 327 cubic-inch engine and a four-barrel carburetor?

Welcome from Central Texas.

EASON gt: depending upon carb setup, more like 6 - 8 deg BTDC, also depending on setup and also whether or not original cam, etc... (NOTE: no 327 in 55, hee hee)

I still have my 70's Tach/Dwell/Timing light in case. kinda like nostalgia, can't seem to toss, LOL..

FWIW, learned my limited backyard mechanic stuff on 67 SS, 396, L4, Rochester POS, etc etc. (usually in driveway under A frame in those years, hee hee)

That's a ******** question, it's impossible to answer! NOBODY COULD ANSWER THAT QUESTION!
It is a trick question. chevy didnt make a 327 in 1955 they didnt make it until 1962 and it wasnt offered in the bel air until 1964. however, in 1964 the correct igniton timing would be 4 degrees before top dead center.

Don't toss it.
I used mine a few yrs ago doing a "it don't run, needs a tune- up" tune-up on a friends bone stock '64 Impala / 283 and 2-spd 'glide. (He knows jack squat about cars). Showed him what they were talking about in My Cousin Vinny. He thought that was so cool!

Since I hadn't used it for over 20 years, had to stop & think for a minute, LOL.

And yeah, it needed a tune-up, drain tank/lines, fresh gas, carb cleaner a battery and a new ground cable. Ran real smooth too.

Point is, keep it if you got room for it.
