Have a picture of it?

As a rule, generally, we get what we pay for. Nice, well made quality items cost more.
I certainly agree with you and I am willing to pony up for good stuff, I just don't see the point in a tonneau though unless you're always carrying extremely high valued items in the bed. I just need one to keep random stuff dry lol

Mine is a TonneauPro trifold vinyl cover. I have the same brand on my '85 C10 and it's been fantastic. It's 3 years old and still looks new other than the stitched on logo fading a tad. They're completely water tight and come on and off quickly when needed. My only gripe with the one on my Ram is that the vinyl is not as tightly stretched on the frame as the one on my C10. But for $280 (it was $160 when I bought the one for the C10 3 years ago), it's hard to beat. I am watching Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist for a Retrax or similar aluminum roll-up though. I'd be willing to spend $6-800 for one but not a grand+

I think you nailed it.

If you're not carrying anything of value, who cares. Before I started scuba diving, I had a cheap tonneau cover and it got the job done for much less expense. I have gambled the odd time when I have loaded expensive bicycles or camping gear and had to park somewhere without visibility.

Then again, if you do carry items of value, a secure rolling cover is a valuable feature that many of us appreciate hearing about.

I use my truck for scuba diving in open water and underground cave systems. At any given time the value of the gear in the box varies depending on the dive plan and if I'm carrying a buddy's gear.

A conservative estimate would be 5 to 10 times the cost of the expensive cover that Goose55 has highlighted. I'm confident there are others who also carry items of value and would prefer a more secure cover.

When I finally retire from diving, maybe I'll consider a less expensive solution or maybe not.

I got my '19 3500 CTD at a very good price on a year end clearance, but it was still expensive and even more so now. Besides, it is still like new w/ only a little over 17k miles on it. I like how the Pace Edwards Full-Metal Jack Rabbit has a very low profile and besides being very secure, easy to operate, and extremely well engineered and built, it looks sharp.

I like nice things. When it gets delivered in a week or so, I'll post a picture of it here mounted on my '19.

I installed a Pack Edwards Jackrabbit a while back on my 2020 Laramie and love it...looks great and very secure. Also, if anyone is interested I have a tri-fold factory Ram cover I need to sell, must have Rambox bed. I travel between upper central Indiana and Lima, Ohio twice a week and could meet for a sale so no shipping costs.

I went with the Retrax PowertraxPro MX on this truck. Had the manual RetraxPro MX on the 1500, but this truck has Ramboxes and is a lot higher. I could barely reach to walk a manual back, no way the wife could so she opted for the power tonneau. No complaints and we do keep high value stuff in there all the time, two sets of expensive golf clubs and carts since we play a couple times a week generally.

I got a Paragon for $1500, powder coated metal, dual locks and easy to temporarily remove when full bed is needed. Also hides my fifth wheel hitch when not in use during season.

So does the Pace Edwards Full-Metal Jack Rabbit. And it is so stout that it can bear 400 pounds equally distributed.

That looks like the "padded" version of the Jack Rabbit, with a vinyl fabric instead of the Full-Metal

I have the Gator Recoil, which I believe is entry level for a retractable. It was $800 6 months ago. It is a good cover and keeps the generator protected on camping trips.

I would love to get the RetracONE XR to have the ability to mount load bars above the bed and have a retractable cover. Can't bring myself to buy a $1600 cover and then have to build out and buy the load bar system.

Almost as good of a deal as a Roll N Lock cover.

I believe I paid about $1650 Canadian about 15 months ago.

Update; Don't forget, we get gouged on many items in Canada, especially auto parts. The US$ price is likely about $1200.
