Integrated Trailer Brake Controller 2025 RAM 1500

I would like to add a trailer brake controller to my 2025 RAM 1500 Bighorn Quad Cab.
Inquired at the dealer, and the price for the ITB kit was high but acceptable. The installation was twice the cost of the kit, bringing the installation over $1k. A bit much for me.
What are my alternatives?
- Bite the bullet and pay the $1k
- Find an aftermarket unit? I expect that they install similar to an older type. Just need to find 12v to trigger and 12v to power, I think. Any issues with aftermarket, like annoying, constant alerts? Will it void my warranty?
- Install the kit myself. Programming would be the issue. Will the brakes function correctly without the programming, only losing the information on the screen.
Aftermarket OBD programming?

I assume that these questions have been asked and answered, but my searches bring up pre-2025 model years.

2022 Ram 2500 my factory brake system failed, I purchased a Autowbrake controller from E-Trailer. I really like this system. Hooks directly to the trailer, bypass,s the truck.

No body want to speak of such things, but when I had several of the RVs my IBC with some of the new units didnt work very at all. So I by passed the internal IBC in the truck and added a Tekonsha P3 under dash unit. Worked outstanding with every thing I used it on. With the correct pigtail, for your truck it... installed in 15 minutes and was idiot proof.

Been researching this There is supposed to be the old style plug there and not sure if a program bump is required. Curt pn #51446 for 2025. 2025 is different per dealer and when I bought truck it was with dealer installing the kit for in dash TrlrBrkController The IBTC module is in the rear behind back seats and a module gets installed and a cable added and pins pushed into existing pin locations. Looks easy . Kit is on back order and pn is well I just decided to cut/paste the info I found. One more point before you jump below. There is an interesting etrailer video on youtube that shows the #51446 being plugged on left side under dash by Ebrake. It looks that simple and makes no mention of software upgrade.... Im calling Etrailer support tomorrow just to know but am awaiting dealer to appropriate and install. If I head down to FL I will need a temp solution.
