Hi,
2015 1500 Tradesman straight cab has the OE trailer wiring.
I want to install the controller and switch.
Videos are straight forward and easy.

Is there any difference in the $400 MOPAR OE dealer kit and the $60-80 aftermarket kit other than the price? OE made in Mexico, others probably Chicom. Obviously looks the same. Any recommendations? Can the dealer flash the computer on the after market ones?
Thanks!

The search function is your friend. Recommend you don't get an aftermarket one.

The OEM controller is worth the extra money, no aftermarket integrates with the vehicle like the OEM does. It use vehicle speed and information from the vehicle stability system to determine trailer braking force along with electronic trailer stabilization.
The OEM kit number for a '15 model year: 82214492AB For some reason the '15 model year only uses this part number.
There have been quite a few people who had nothing but trouble with the aftermarket ITBM

I’ve found the OE Mopar kit for $285 shipped, so that’s a no brainer
You can use AlfaOBD to enable the brake controller. Depending on what a dealership charges it might be cost effective in the long run even if you have to buy a AlfaOBD set up.

Connect to the Body Computer,

Select "Car Configuration Change",

"integrated Trailer Brake Module"

Enabled.

at the bottom, in the "find setting: search for "trailer" or "brake" and you'll find it pretty quick.

Thanks guys!
I emailed alfaobd, got right back to me. I asked if there was a way to transfer it from when i bought it on the play store for android to windows since i didnt have an android anymore. He gave me an activation code for the windows version!
Now to see if i can get the obd mx to link up. Is there a way to just plug laptop in instead of bt?

check the OBDLInk wesite. One of the dongles uses a USB cable. TBH, I have the MX+ and have never had a problem with it communicating with the laptop.

With the Bluetooth, you can take the laptop under the hood with you when troubleshooting actuators and such.

I believe it's the OBD Link EX, is the USB version

OBDLink EX FORScan OBD Adapter https://a.co/d/0124wKuS

I also use the MX+ Bluetooth, with a laptop. It works great.

I have the Android version on my phone and the Windows version on the laptop. I prefer the laptop, because using the "find" function is so much easier with a real keyboard.

I hook up the old mx, update firmware, find the changes and its now on my dash display! Should i return the unopened obdmx+?
Another thing, how do i save what i have now so if i mess something up i have a point to go back to?

i bought mine off ebay...supposedly OEM for my 2020 1500. I installed it myself and the dealer "flashed" it for me. In 6 years i've never ever had a problem with it.

It wasn't one of the under dash things. I had to remove the 12" radio, install the switches into the dash then mount the control module up under the dash where it plugged into the OEM harness.

If i can find the one i bought 6 years ago, i'll post it.
