Just joined...looking to but a used ram 1500

I'm looking to buy a used ram 1500 soon. Been reading up on a few things. Lots to learn.
Anyone have good and bad to share about certain models and options?
I'm currently looking for 2015 - 2019 crew cab 4x4 v8 .
I've test drove a few.

couple questions...

I'm a tractor mechanic, do most of my own maintenence and repairs.
Cylinder deactivation... When did it start to be used on these trucks?
Also, my biggest question- I have several basic obd scanner tools, are there any issues for DIY repairs on these trucks?

For those of you that have scan tools, what model scan tool do you use ? Can you get full access without having to run to a dealer?

Mds has always been on 4th gens. 2500s with the 5.7 are the only trucks that don’t have it. A cheap obd scanner will work, but look into Alfaobd if you want all the diagnostics as well as being able to change bcm functions and much more, pretty much everything the dealer can do. Use it with an OBDlink mx+ for best results.
