Hey I'm not sure if anyone wil be able to help with this online but I bought an led tailgate light strip with brake, turn signal and reverse light functions. It has a 4 pin connector so I bought an adapter that switched it to a 7 pin round connector to go into my existing trailer wiring harness. The strip functions fine when my trucks headlights are off. But if I turn the headlights on the strip freezes my turn signals and only halfof the LEDs light up. I have no idea what the problem could be.

Oh I didn't know there was an open 4 pin under the truck? Where would that be? Is it being used by anything else?

Just curious what brand did you go with? I wonder if all the tailgate light strips come with a 4 pin connector. I know I have both a 7 pin and 4 pin connector on my bumper I guess I'm gonna have to look up under everything and see if there is another extra 4 pin not being used. Unless someone else answers that question.

my truck had a 4 pin and a 7 way. wires were corroded to say the least, i put in a new connector and went back on the wires until i found good wire and got rid of the corroded wires.

are you sure you have your 7 way wired correctly? check to make sure your ground isn't switched with the running lights

Ill check it out when I get home and update you guys. I contacted the seller and they didn't have an answer but they gave me my money back and didn't ask for me to send it back to them so at least I didn't lose money on this.

On my 3rd gen, there's only one 4 pin connector.

try hot wiring each wire. one should be a ground, the other three are right brake/turn, left brake/turn, and running lights. test them one by one, than test your reverse while your there.

usually the second four pin is ******* around the drivers side frame rail (if it's there) otherwise check your 7 pin with a test light and make sure those are wired correctly. sometimes with those cheap after market l.e.d. lights, the brain can make it do goofy things. at the truck accessory store i work at, we get some bad apples in occasionally.
