Hey all have a question in regards to a suspension lift. Have a 2011 ram 1500 4x4 big horn. Was thinking about getting a 2.5 inch leveling kit and wrapping the stock 33s in new tread. Am now thinking for the price to have it installed should i just wait and get a 4 inch suspension lift with 35s. Is the price between the two greatly different? Thanks for your info

Suspension lift will be much more then a leveling kit. Both can be done at home but leveling kit is roughly $200-300 plus install and suspension lift is like $1,300 maybe more I haven't looked into the numbers lately. I suggest giving the leveling kit a shot at doing it yourself which would save you on install as well.

not really good with any tools. I got a quote from 4 wheel parts and they said with the leveling kit, the tires and the alignment and all the labor and taxes it would be around 2400. That is why im wondering for that price is it worth it to just wait and get the lift?

tires and rims 2000 level 75 to 100 so that sounds like a pretty good price for that stuff

I paid $200 total for leveling kit and install (HBS 2.5 lvl-$80, $120 install at pickup heaven), I got it aligned for $50, but I kept my stockers on, but I have a set of 285/55/20's just sittin in my garage for when my tires wear down lol

So long story short, you shouldn't pay over $300 for level and install, and tires you can probably get for $1,200-$1,500 for a 33 or 34 inch tire

It sounded high maybe paying extra for a big retail company to do it going to look into smaller outfits out here. and that is without the rims

one last question. When having a leveling kit installed does it really matter who installs it in regards to a offroad shop or a tire store that does it also. Thanks for all the info

No anyone can install them. I didn't have much clue about trucks before I got my RAM now I am pretty confident in most the work I can do on my own. It really isn't too big a deal. Find a local shop and get a quote from them just don't forget about the alignment.

As everyone stated above ^^^
A level kit is much different than a 4" suspension lift.
They achieve the same thing, which is get you higher, but they are still different in they way you achieve the height.

Based on the tires you want to run and providing you dont want to go with larger tires down the road, the level is a great choice.
However, many do find the urge to go higher after level and your options are body lift or suspension lift.

I still recommend the Bilsteins. They are leveling shocks and are really a 2 in 1
They do cost slightly more than your avg level, but again, its a 2 in 1 (level and ride change). Plus they have 5 increments of settings (0, 0.7", 1.4", 2.1" and 2.75")
So you can get them to how you want it now.

So if you decide to do a suspension lift down the road, the Bilsteins are stackable where the level strut spacers are not.
Both level strut spacers and Bilsteins can be used with a body lift.

Either way, you are going up ;)
