New member, recently purchased a 2018 ram 1500 express. I’m still getting used to the 8 speed transmission in it.

Hey guys I recently bought a 2018 Ram 1500 express, with the 5.7 hemi, with the 8 speed transmission. Still getting used to it is it normal for these trucks, going down hill to rev up to 3 grand on the rpm’s before it shifts without pressing throttle on it, only does it on steep hills ?

Yep. My 2019 classic does the same thing. It’s designed to eliminate a “run away” vehicle. I don’t like it either

It's engine braking, it's a good thing (doubly so while towing) as it extends the life of your pads and there is no downside.

My 2015 1500 SLT QC 5.7L 2WD 8-SPD does this as well. Not a problem for me.
