I leave my 2019 red plastic cap in and have not had any issues for past 3 years.
I left my red plastic "temporary" cap in place. I figured a little extra protection isn't going to hurt.
Last time I went to fuel up and it was gone. Somebody stole it.
The DEF tank has a twist on cap.

I have tried the anodized cap on my 2022 2500 and I do not recommended them.

The twist-on barely catches and when the cap is pushed down fully to sit on the o-ring it pushes the OEM dust flap open. So if the cap doesn’t lock down tightly and it holds the OEM flap slightly open then dust can enter the fuel tank.

RAM has really screwed up with their new design!

Did you buy the correct one, not all years use the same cap? Genos has a non locking cap that fits the 2022: https://www.genosgarage.com/product/dodge-ram-diesel-fuel-filler-cap-gg-dslfc19/fuel-caps

This is the URL for the locking cap like I have used on my 22 for the past 8 months: https://www.genosgarage.com/product/ram-cummins-locking-fuel-cap-gg-ez45glc/fuel-caps

I'm just worried about dust and dirt in there. Not worried about vandals where it is parked all the time. Ibuprofen lid with some Dremel work inside to make it fit good. There is not enough room on top of lid when travelling to come off. As you can see, fuel door lid still fits flush. My kind of price. :)
