If I didn't have to go off road into mud and snow, I'd not get a 4X4. But, I need 4WD from time to time.

When I didn't need it I got a RWD truck and it was all good.

I guess you just have to decide if 4X4 is something you would use off and on or not. If so, get it. If not, don't get it.

I still always buy a 4x4. More out of habit and fear of change I guess. I grew up in NY, used 4x4 all the time in the winter. And up until recently, 4x4s seemed to be rated for higher hauling capacities. Now I'm in Northern Cal and the hauling thing seems to not hold true anymore. I've used the 4x4 function only a few times per year in my muddy pasture/field, but always glad I had it. Could I have lived with out it, probably. But glad to have had it. And with all the fancy traction control, I don't know that moderate northern cal snow is even a good excuse either.

I think if you can get a decent deal and you foresee actually using 4x4, get it. Someday when I can let go of habit and embrace change, I'll probably go 4x2 but for now, I'd rather get thru my field without having to go ask my wife to pull me out with her Tacoma....

I bought a 2014 Ram Sport 4x2 and regretted it!! I live in Vegas and don't need the 4x4 but I still wanted it in case I needed it ever. So after 5 months of owning my Sport I went and traded it in on a 2014 Ram Laramie CC 4x4! With all the rebates and getting what I owed on my Sport I walked out with the new truck without owing more money or my payment going up.

4x4 also helps the resale value.

I've had 3 rwd trucks over the years.
Most of the time they are just fine, but like usmc_ram said, I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it (and there were several times I really wished I had it...)
I doubt I'll ever buy another truck that's not 4x4.
...I also doubt I'll ever buy another single cab truck. Only made that mistake with my first two.

Same.

Personally feel that if you're gonna spend this much on a vehicle, might as well get a 4x4. Living in Canada, it was a no-brainer for me.

The additional transfer case/front diff. services aren't really that much considering the intervals.

I have used my 4x4 maybe 5-6 times in the 1.5 years I have had my truck. Surprisingly I have used it most on wet grass when we park for football games or what not. Just because you don't plan on going off road, doesn't mean that you wont use it from time to time.

4x4 is an option that holds 100% of its value when you go to sell it so you'll see it on the back end anyway. Don't want to get caught with your pants down when you need it.

My first truck was a 2wd Dakota. After I sold it have never bought another RWD, 4wd is just so much nicer to have... Being in Canada its nice to have JIC.

This.

All my trucks up to this one were 4x2s. I used it for towing motorcycles and regular hauling of stuff. I simply don't need it around here (Fort Worth). The only reason I bought a 4x4 this time was because we started going back to Kentucky during Christmas and have needed it a few times due to very bad road conditions.

I've only owned one 2wd truck, a 08 1500 ram Hemi QCSB. I had it at the same time I had my 02 4x4 3/4 ton CTD. I only had the 2wd for a little over a year and rarely drove it in the winter. Last spring I sold both trucks and bought a 14 1500 Express RCSB 4x4. Being from northern Indiana having a 4x4 is a good idea. In the winter were I live we get a lot of lake effect snow. I had to drive my 2wd once in the snow and never again, it doesn't compare to a 4x4 in the snowy winter weather.

if you live in socal and by a 4x4 its because you feel the need fit in. I tow a 18 foot jet boat and i would never need 4x4. all my caged long travel trucks all rwd.

unless you plan to rock crawl or hit the big dunes in Glamis no need for 4x4.

When I was younger I had several 2wd trucks here in NY because I couldn't afford the extra cost for 4wd. I never got stuck. Always found a way to make them work and get thru. These days I can afford to have it, and wouldn't bother not getting it as long as I have the choice. You get the extra $$ back when you sell it anyway.

I've had to use 2WD work trucks, backing up onto ramps, backing up gravel driveways with a hot tub on a small trailer, etc nd vowed never to own a 2WD truck. We only use ours to pull our trailer, but you never know if it'll get muddy or gravel=ish, so 4x4 we own. I can't imagine it any other way.

Like the others have said, it's a no brainer to get the 4x4 up here in Canada. Just because you might not use it very often doesn't mean it won't save your ass those few times you do need it

I'm from Alabama so we don't get heavy snow hardly ever. Once in the past 10 years has it ever shut down roads and that only lasted a day. I don't gohunting or go off-road so really I have no use for it. Beside I like the sport truck look lowered and more aggresive.

Re-sale value is better on a 4wd thought can't argue with that.
