opinions needed on warranty info

i bought my truck a few months back at a chevy dealership, and bought an extended 4 year 40k mile bumper to bumper warranty.

i know its a hit or miss with programers voiding your factory warranty. some dealers are ok with it as long as what youve installed hasnt caused the damage in which your filing your claim, and some dealers say your SOL right off the bat.

the company that i have my warranty with is US warranty corp of Florida, so im trying to figure out if by using a programer, will my warranty be voided.

the picture below is the section of paperwork on my warranty info that explains what would void any coverage.

im starting at section 4 where my thumb is, which briefly talks about modifications to the vehicle.




obviously, its very short and says nothing about programers, cai, exhaust and so on voiding the warranty.


this being shown and said, would it be safe to assume ill be ok and not have to worry about anything?

any thoughts suggestions or advice is appreciated

A programmer would certainly be viewed as a modification for performance. It would certainly give the warranty company a lever to deny any claims.

As a side note, many years ago I worked for an extended warranty company. Never buy a 3rd party warranty. If the underwriter goes bankrupt, your warranty is now useless paper. Plus you are really playing against the odds.

When you buy a warranty you just paid for what the actuarial charts say it will cost to repair your vehicle in that time (what, statistically speaking, will be the average repair cost), administration costs, plus operating costs, marketing costs, and profit for the dealer, the administrator, and the underwriter.

My M.O. is generally to:

A) Not go to the dealer unless it is absolutely necessary.
-Do standard maintenance yoursel for through an external source, unless otehr wise specified in your warranty.

B) If going to the dealer remove programmers.
-Since they are normally plug and play, and the vehicle generally reverts to stock programming the dealer won't know (although I don't know how true this is any more, it was true for my 05 CTD, but now, I am not as sure lol)

Hope that helps some, obviously more significant mods like suspension, exhaust, CAI are a pain to do this with, but generally are more or less ignored.

ive heard with programers, returning to stock and driving for a few days the dealer cant tell unless they do a full diagnostic test. im not sure if this is true or not.

im sure a cai will be ignored, although i do plan on leveling the front so idk if they will notice the spacers or not

I cannot believe a warranty would prevent someone from lifting their truck or putting aftermarket wheels on it. That is a bummer.

Simple bolt ons such as CAI or exhaust is ok, anything past that including a programmer will void it, I have not tried this myself, but I have heard that if you just return the vehicle back to the stock settings and drive a little youll be fine as far as a programmer. When it comes to suspension, any sort of lift or level will void it. Wheels and tires... Thats a new one, never heard of a warranty being that strict, my advice- no 3rd party warranties

Yeah, the sucky thing about those type of warranty's is, I believe they are not bound ny the magnuson warranty act

Don't know much about the mechanics of it, but had a relative that raced his 06 Chevy very often, and often added modifications to performance. His transmission blew at least 5 times and every time I remember him saying, "gotta put everything like it was and take it to the dealer." Never actually confirmed if it was true, but every one claimed it was. I don't even take our vehicles for the free oil changes given and I got 4 of them when I purchase my truck in June. I've had my truck a little over two weeks and its at 2K + miles so I don't feel comfortable when I go over a little and them knowing about it.

On a separate note, a law professor once told me you can make them exclude things like that from the contract, but you have to do it before you sign of course. Don't know how far you could go with it though. That one on the wheels and lifts is pretty out there i feel.

You got 6,000 more miles before you even need to worry about an oil change lol

Really? I thought it was every 3,000 miles or 5,000 miles for synthetic. I do plan to go synthetic for the record but i doubt its first batch is synthetic, right?

Dodge service intervals are 8,000 miles but of course you can do it whenever you feel comfortable. And I doubt it's synthetic from the factory
