How much would you guys think a body shop would charge me to paint my front and rear bumpers and grill to match the white body. Make a sport is what I'm after. The bumpers and grill are chrome. any thoughts?

Better off trading with someone I think it would be hard to get the paint to last. IMO.

Even if it was prepped properly? I've seen it done. I think as long as you prep the chrome accordingly it will stick, and last. Maybe I'm wrong.

Paiting chrome does require more work, I think it just needs to be all sanded down, then primed, sprayed and cleared.

Usually you wouldn't have to sand the entire thing down if it was already painted.

You could find a shop to do it for $500-600 and find one that will guarantee the work. A good paint job should last years, and a good clear coat should last up to 10 years.

Probably $200. Blackedouthemi's parents do it and I think that's their quote for a painted front bumper

Most shops would tell ya they would require the chrome to be stripped off. That's about $100 or so based on pricing in this area. Another $100 for prep and paint per bumper would be about what you'd pay for final finish. Still cheaper than getting a sport ram set online.

you are still right, to switch to the sport from bumper you have to buy all the support brackets and what not.

I just asked my painter what he would charge to paint a set of PRIMERED bumpers for me.

He said "good thing you didn't say chrome, cuz the prep alone would cost you more than the paint work".

In the end, he quoted me 100 per bumper. Now, I know if I went somewhere else..........I know it would probably be 1-200 per bumper.

Thanks Jeremy! That gives me a good idea. Did you get new wheels and tires, or photoshop?

You could try plasti dipping the bumper and then painting it. You apply a couple or three coats of plasti dip, a couple of coats of dupli color, and a couple of coats of clear. If you take your time and do it right it actually looks pretty decent. If you don't like it you can still peel it off.

http://mustangforums.com/forum/2005-2012-mustangs/657137-new-plastidip-discovery.html

The guy on here used it on an xbox faceplate. Scroll down and you can see it peels off. I think I'm going to experiment with it on my grille.

dang, tough decision. I'm wanting to do the same, and I never thought painting chrome was such a big deal, or expensive. if you go through checking prices on painting your chrome bumpers vs installing a sport kit, definitely let us know
