plug below oil pump

had a 360 magnum block cleaned at shop. was told the plug was removed from inside the block 2-3 inches below the oil pump and was not replaced Was told it is usually replaced by shop. I did not know there was a plug. any info on why it is there. From a 1999 ram 2500. I could not find any info .

Freeze Plug? You didn't say if the hole was smooth or threaded. Smooth was probably a freeze plug.

thanks for reply. The hole was smooth. doing additional research . I believe the plug forces oil from the oil pump to the oil filter. when i sent block to shop to clean i removed all pugs but one, did not know about this one. Now i need to find one.

Forces oil through the filter. There is also one in the distributor pocket, one behind the filter plate, and two behind the timing chain that tend to get missed.
