It seems just selecting TOW feature keeps it off.......will check today!!

It does. Tow mode prevents MDS from activating. I use it all the time with traffic.

I use tow mode for in-town and traffic and "normal" mode for the highway/open road.

It appears T/H disables MDS on 5th gens, but not on 4th. And same thing with ECO light, it's 100% tied to MDS on 5th gens but many reports on 4th say it isn't.
