Ran out of gas and now it wont start

06 dodge ram 1500 5.7 litre hemi crew cab short box.
Ran out of gas on my way to work.
Went got gas in can about 20 litres put in truck tried priming the system by turning key to on position and off a few times and it wont start.
Towed it home got under truck and found that my feul pump was only coming on if i taped on tank.
If i taped on tank it would try and fire up then die.
So i went and got a used pump and put it in and now it primes but also has 4 tapping sounds when i turn key on.
What could this be?
It also will not start?
Any suggestions?

Also when i turn my key on the engine light will flash ten times after chimes and other lights go out.

Bleed the air out. You might be able to do it by turn key on and bleed from the nipple on the injector rail that is used to test fuel pressure, looks a lot like a tire valve, should squirt gas and air out when you push the pin

Why does my check engine light flash 10 times?


It means that one or more of the emissions systems is not ready, also known as the I/M readiness test. All the systems will be tested as you drive the vehicle, and the light usually stops blinking after a few driving cycles

Thank u for the reply.
I took air breather off and released the pressure on fuel rail and yes a little gas came out but did not squirt.
Still no start

'Used fuel pump' I would check the fuel pressure with a gauge spray starting fluid down the intake if it runs for a second its still a pump/injector issue ect.

OUCH!! "USED FUEL PUMP" Why is a used fuel pump not in a tank working. Don't know your situation but, The "USED" pump might be bad too. I know stuffs expensive these days but........?

Probably a bad fuel pump. I put in aftermarket pump that failed after a couple days. A used fuel pump probably sat empty which will rot all of the parts that are supposed to get lubricated by the gas. A new mopar pump was $350 a couple years back
