Hi, I have a "new to me" 2018 ram 2500 with a 6.4 hemi. This truck is supposed to have a tow package on it. When I am pulling up the mtn I live on, I get about halfway up and suddenly, something kicks on and it sounds like the truck is roaring. I have had the truck for about 6 months. it always does it on the same spot coming up the mountain. I thought maybe it was a turbo or it shifting into a different gear but I dont think it has a turbo and I locked the trans into 1st gear and it still did it. My only other thought, is maybe some kind of cooling system. The noise does not last very long and no lights or nothing else happens. Does any one have any idea what this may be? TIA.

Engine heats up under load........... Fan comes on at full speed

Adjust your dash views, so you can see exact coolant temps, and watch. The standard temp gauge, with the needle sweeping from L to H, really doesn't reveal much detail.

Do you experience the same noise with the AC set to Max AC?

.
I dont know if this truck has "Max AC" like the old one did. Its got the electronic temperature settings. You dial up the temp you want and its hot here. We are in Alabama so I normally have the ac on as much as I can!

Thanks! That is the loudest fan I have ever heard! I will watch the temp but if the fan makes a roar, then I am sure that is the noise. I will try to get the view adjusted on the truck. Still not super familiar with all the different settings on this one.

Check the Climate Controls on your radio.

This is the Uconnect 8.4C on my '21 Warlock;

If you can't locate a MAX A/C setting, set the HVAC circulation control to recirculate, AC enabled, and crank the setpoint as low as it will go.

Either method will cause the E-fan to run immediately and until you either change the settings or shut off the engine. :cool:

OP when you hit climate control look at the top menu bar and the top menu bar you will see the words MAX space AC hit that button on the Uconnect and your truck will be in max AC and the temperatures were all go from reading a number to the letters LO for low. Look at post number seven this thread at the top left corner and you see the max AC setting there that you hit if you want Max AC on.

I just went through something similar last week w my 1500 5.7. my thermostat died. The mechanic showed me how to find the screen with all the exact temps on it. All these new (2013) fangled things on trucks

It's the cooling fan. My 1500 will do it if it starts heating up while towing.

You lock the transmission into first gear? Why? You must have a hell of a hill and be about real slow speed, watch the tack ,does it change speed when sound changes?
I presume its a electric fan hitting full speed, more to do with motor heat then AC running full blast.
Do you have factory brake control, On my 2014 1500, T have tow package, but no trailer brake on the dash, not that I need one anymore.
