Secure Lock for Hitch

I need some informed opinions. I plan on getting this tow hitch step with my Christmas gift cards:

I need a locking hitch pin to secure it. I've come across several recommendations, but they appear to have universal keys (not secure).

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good way to dissuade would be thieves?

But seriously, take any hitch pin, 5/8" I believe, and drill a bigger hole near the end where the keeper goes through and use a good padlock of your choice through that hole.

This is what I use. You use the key out of your remote to basically key it alike to your truck. Of course, once you key it, it lives with the truck permanently since it can't be re-keyed.

Just purchased the lock you recommended and it's spare tire lock counterpart. Being able to use my RAMbox key to key these is a huge benefit. I hate having more on my key ring then absolutely necessary.

You can buy locking hitch pins at Home Depot, Lowes etc or any farm supply store.

I've been contemplating the spare lock. I went with the hitch and the coupler lock. I also hate extra keys. I'm down to house key and my locking gas cap key. Eventually I 'll get rid of the house key, I put one of those electronic door locks on my house. Between that and my garage door opener, I'll just have to do a "hide a key".

I got a stainless Reese hitch lock at Walmart. They arent that expensive and being stainless steel I had zero problem taking it out even when it was in there for so long that the receiver was rusted in the hitch. When I traded in my SUV for my Ram I took the receiver lock out but could not remove the receiver so that stayed with the trade

Well here is my new bed step/bumper protector nice and secure with a lock that uses my factory key. Thanks to all for the recommendations!





FYI, I really like this Go Rhino product, looks good and is functional. It has 3 different hitch positions, I have it currently in the 3rd position closest to the bumper.
