Original post (8-23-2024):
Today I started to have a bunch of lights start flashing on my dash and trailer brake controller:
On trailer brake controller: CF, blinking trailer picture, and a blinking !
On instrument cluster : ESP, BAS, SERV 4WD, traction control light, and "trailer brake disconnected" message on my screen
It happened this morning going into work, and again on my way home. I haven't driven any different than I normally would and I didn't notice any difference in how the truck operated after all that started flashing. There is a snap-on scanner at work I can use, I'm planning on using it on Monday when I go in if things keep flashing the way they do. I don't have a good enough scanner at home to read as many codes. I'm assuming it's a bad wire or sensor somewhere.
Update (8-26-2024):
Same thing was happening all weekend, here are the codes I pulled from it this morning and this afternoon after I got home (using a snap-on code reader from work):
P0703 (on engine and transmission): Brake switch 2 performance
C1000 (abs): Brake pedal switch 1 circuit performance
U0401 (abs): Implausible data received from ECM/PCM
U0415 (drive train control module): implausible data received from ABS
U0415-00 (integrated trailer brake module): implausible data received from ABS
U0401-00 (integrated trailer brake module): implausible data received from ECM/PCM
A guy at work suggested the ABS speed sensors or possibly a wheel bearing/hub (I mentioned that the truck pulls hard right even after an alignment). I looked at the live data on my drive home and all 3 of my speed sensors (front right and left, rear left is what the scanner found) were all within about 0.8 mph of each other. When all my lights started flashing again I looked at the live chart and nothing looked abnormal for the speed sensors. I don't have any freeze frame data because it never sets off an engine code, and I don't know how to capture freeze frame data for abs stuff if it's even possible with the snap-on scanner.
Cruise control stops working when all this happens but other than that I still don't notice any differences while driving/braking/shifting before or after the lights pop up. I don't know exactly what is causing the issue as it seems to come on at different intervals during my drive. I can drive for 5 minutes or I could be 30 minutes into my 45 minute drive and it'll pop up. I've tried driving hard (hard acceleration going onto highway, going about 80, hitting the brakes hard), normal driving (using cruise control, staying about 65 on the highway, moderate acceleration/reasonable braking), and driving like I'm 89 years old going to church. I even sat in the driveway and constantly pressed and released the brake pedal to see if the switch had anything to do with it and nothing happened. It seems to only happen when driving.
I replaced my brake pedal switch about a month ago with one from auto zone after I broke the stock one while doing the job to replace my blend doors. I made sure it was plugged in right and adjusted properly so my brake lights work as they should. That's the only brake related item I've messed with recently.
I don't want to just start shotgunning parts and throwing speed sensors in if that's not what's needed. I don't exactly feel confident it's a speed sensor based on the data I've seen on the scanner unless the tolerances between the sensors should be less than 0.8 mph
Update (9-2-2024)
Put in the Mopar brake switch that came in on Friday (8-30-2024). Drove over 300 miles during Labor Day weekend and had no issues at all. I think it's safe to say that it was the non-mopar brake switch that I put in from auto zone.
