Looking into a CAI. Torn between 2, K&N and Vararam. I've had and loved K&N when I had it on my last vehicle, but lots of folks here seem to love the Vararam CAI. What's the deal?

Vararam is a true "ram air" intake. Where K&N just sucks. Lol I originally had a K&N on my truck. But wanted a color matched intake.

I got the K&N and I love how it sounds, throaty, who cares about which one gains 1-2hp more than the other... these trucks stock rock! so give her the intake YOU want! not what others tell you!!

The reason people go with VaraRam, Volant or S&B is because they are sealed intakes. You get the most out of it that way and they keep the intake from sucking hot air in from the engine. The k&n doesn't offer that.

At the end its your choice though.

I was only firmiliar with K&N, not the others. Are they both good CAIs? Or does one outweigh the other substantially?

I think the VaraRam is the one that shows the most gains, then it's the S&B. K&N im not sure where it ranks against them.

Don't forget what may be possibly the most important part of the equation; the quality of the filter element. That would mean you should steer clear of K&N. They flow more because they clean less.

K&N would be near the bottom of the list for me -- unless it was a new "black/dry" kit. The top choices seem to be Vararam and S&B. Volant is also a "sealed" unit, but their "fitment" isn't always great. Airaid and aFe dry kits are also OK. I'd rank the K&N oiled kit above the ebay/Spectre kits, but below others.
