Have a question for you all. Bought nice set of sport wheels low miles decent tread left on the Goodyears. Question is one wheel has some corrosion near center cap under the clearcoat. Not sure what is under the clear. Is it polished aluminum, paint color or is it powder coated chrome?

I don’t have a problem tackling this myself, just want to be prepared with the correct color to match when needed.
Thanks fellas!!

Can you take a better picture of the wheels. Maybe I can help if I can see exactly what wheels you have.

I wonder if he could find maybe one wheel at a pick and pull? LKQ comes to mind as their stuff is usually good.

The Sport wheels are polished aluminum with a clear coat finish on top.

The only fix for them is to strip off the existing clearcoat using one of those chemical strippers and have them cleaned and re-cleared.

There are companies that do it. In Canada you'd probably be looking at $150-200 a wheel. Should be cheaper in the States.

Thats the info I needed to know. Thought it looked like clear over polished aluminum. But had also heard that they were powder coated chrome, what ever that may have been.

No such thing as "powder coated chrome". But in this case, you might be able to sand that one spot down, use the polishing cone (or whatever you like) to shine it, then re-spray the area with clear. I've done it on body parts when the clear is starting to peel.

Actually there is such a thing as powder coat chrome. You can clear it for a nice shine or do a buff out on it a it will become like a mirror.
