Stellantis is facing yet another rough patch in Europe, with dwindling demand forcing the automaker to hit the brakes on production at six of its factories. The timing is far from ideal. The company has already posted a $2.65 billion net loss in the first half of the year and is bracing for a further $791 million blow from tariffs introduced by President Donald Trump in the second half.

The scale of the pause highlights how sharply demand has slowed. Production of the Fiat Panda at the Pomigliano plant near Naples will stop between September 29 and October 6. The same factory also builds the Alfa Romeo Tonale, and its lines will remain idle for longer, from September 29 through October 10. In total, around 3,800 workers will be furloughed while the site is shut down.

In addition, Stellantis said that production at its Poissy site near Paris, responsible for building the Opel Mokka and DS3, will be paused from October 13 to October 31. Speaking with Reuters, a company spokesman said it would use the downtime to perform work at the site and conduct several training courses.

Multiple Factories On Hold

Bloomberg reports that the disruption will spread even wider, reaching Stellantis plants in Poland, two Spanish facilities, and its Eisenach site in Germany. It marks one of the broadest slowdowns the group has faced in its European operations this year.

In a statement, Stellantis explained that it is “adapting the rhythm of production in some of its plants in Europe” to balance output with market conditions. The company said the aim is to manage inventory carefully before the end of the year while responding to weaker demand across the region.

Sales Slide Deepens

The numbers underline the challenge. Through the first seven months of the year, Stellantis registrations in Europe fell by 8 percent to 1.19 million units. It also acknowledged that President Donald Trump’s tariffs have impacted US demand for the Alfa Romeo Tonale. Stellantis added that the halt in production of the Panda coincides with a general decline in orders expected from fleets and rental car companies in the final part of the year.

Will Stellantis shut down some brands in Europe, or sell off its US brands to stay afloat?

If their European brands quality is anything like their track record in the US, I can understand the big sales slump.
