Ive been looking at these swing out storage boxes for my 2020 RAM 1500DT. You can get them for either side or as a set for both sides. This one is on Amazon but there are off-brand models that all look alike to the brand names. Prices vary quite a bit, however, they all seem to function and mount the same. Anyone have any of these swing out boxes? If so, what do you thing about them? Good, bad, so-so? Easy to install, not worth the effort? Any options, thoughts or even a good sea story are welcome. As always, thanks in advance.

I’m sorry my review was too sterile.
Why don’t you buy off amazon and then you can return them within 30 days after looking at the quality yourself.
(I’m embarrassed to admit I fell for the hype and bought one myself in 2018)

The swing out boxes come with self tapping metal screws and can easily pull through and strip out of minimal weight is multiplied by the extension of the swing arm there are no rivet nuts.

If you really are set on the design you would be better off to copy the dimensions and have custom aluminum welded and
make the swing arms out of stainless rod,
With stainless hinges, with backing fasteners.

That's a very slick design and I'd like to have a set; however, the original Swing Case at $209/side is much too expensive to entice me any further.

A cool idea though.

Yep, price/cost is the issue. That why I was asking here, on the forum, for others experience with these , were they worth the cost. There are off brands, that look very much like the name brands, for a lot less.

You can buy an

aluminum truck bed fender well box

and at almost the same price as the poly that’s stationary, but is not limited in weight of it’s contents because of movement of extension on a fulcrum.
To be truly convenient the fulcrum would also need a gas strut or tension spring to control movement under weight.
(Max storage weight 75lbs eacb ?)

I've got one on the driver side, I like it. Obviously not going to load it down with gear but works good for odds and ends, small tool bag, jumper cables, ratchet straps, etc. It is pricey though for what it is. Should mention I had the original design years back when I lived in a colder climate and the plastic cracked (albeit cosmetic) and when I moved back home to the rust belt the hinges eventually corroded and broke off. That probably could been avoided with Fluid Flim or something but anyway. Haven't had this one long enough for real review yet but so far I like it.

I also was looking at them and because I have the bed utility group and the multi-function tailgate I wrote to the manufacture, they told me they would work.

The price of these is insane and the rollercoaster pricing is even more interesting.

I decided to just throw it a 27 gallon storage container in the bed and through all my typical carry crap the the tote, problem solved.

Thanks . That’s useful info and what I needed to hear, from someone who owns and uses one of these units.

Thanks. I can find off-brand units that look exactly like the name brand units for a little more then half the price of the known brand. Even at ~$120 and free shipping, they should have a solid purpose and need for them. Also. I’m not real thrilled about drilling holes into the bed side. That’s why I’m asking for members experience with them.

I've had a SWing Case on my Eco since 2016 and one on my HO since 2020. Mine are loaded heavy with gear and never a problem. They are handy and I use them a lot.

Above it was said they need a strut and the self-tapping screws easily pull through. I guess if they are installed incorrectly or abused that could be true but mine are still solid mounted and swing easily. There is no sign of any screws loosening or pulling through. If concerned a rivnut type fastener coluld be used.

I am not familiar with the after-market models but my concern would be with their mounting system. The Swing case has an excellent, strong and easily installed mounting system. Remember, the case swings on that mount so it needs to be a good design and strong.

Yep - I have them as well and never a problem. I actually got a second set of brackets for my other truck so I can move them between the two. One I load them with odds and ends of camping stuff, hydraulic bottle jack, tie downs etc., Or I load them up with tools going over to my son's house to always help him with something. They work great for me

All I've ever heard is the mounts are a bit flimsy, especially for the price. I like the idea of them tho.

There’s a big price difference between the No-name brands and the known brands names. Guess one way to cut cost and corners is with a less robust mount.

I have both sides. I'm in Canada and purchased them from local place.
Price was $250 each CA, free shipping.

Took around 1 hour to install both side. They are bit small. but work well for my needs. I don't like ram boxes.
These also come off when you need or you can lock them in place.

I had them; they suck. If you have anything in the bed within the swing area you have to move it out of the way in order to swing the bin out. They were too much of a PITA. I removed them and donated them to Goodwill.
