I see 10,000 mi. Change interval.

Would lead me to believe it's full syn but probably not .

I see 6.4 is full syn.

I've seen what grade they want you to use.
& I'm going full syn ( have since 85) there's no way I'd run dino oil that long or semi synthetic either.
Did find Honda uses a special break in oil & they don't recommend changing it early

Currently @2000mi but soon tripping 1000 mi with camper

I do not believe there is anything special about the factory fill oil for FCA gas engines. They recommend 10,000 miles on "dino" regular oil, and that tends to work just fine.

If you're like me and like wasting money for peace of mind, than I change full synthetic at about 6000-7000 miles. However, that is overkill. Back when my 2013 Ram was totalled and things got a little hectic at work, I got absent minded and forgot to change the oil in the wife's 2014 Grand Cherokee (Hemi) until it started dinging at her at 9500 miles (warned her an oil change was recommended in 500 miles).

It was Pennzoil Ultra. I did the change and sent a sample to Blackstone, as I'd never ran oil that long before. The oil was fine, and they said I could probably go 12000 or more on it next time and it'd still be acceptable.

They are currently filling with semisynthetic. But that has nothing to do with the 10,000 miles thing. They also recommend 10,000 miles with dino oil. Until recently the 5.7 was filled with dino oil.

As far as I know the factory fill is straight Pennzoil conventional aka Yellow Bottle. Did they switch formulations recently? Why or what indicated that switch?

FCA has moved everything to semisynthetic (full synthetic maybe in some cases), not sure when, maybe 2016 model year. Standard dealer oil changes are now semisynthetic.

Someone better tell my dealer, they're still filling with Pennzoil Yellow Bottle!

May I ask what is your source for this change?

The last oil change, maybe Feb, I asked about using full synthetic instead of dino and the dealer service writer said that FCA was mandating they use semi-synthetic for the5.7 as standard, so the up charge for full synthetic for street use is not worth it. The dealer was using Pennzoil. I didn't check the bottle color, but this is a pretty good dealer.

Dealers don't follow mandates? Nah, never heard of it. :)

Yeah.. synthetic or not do your first oil change at 500 miles. I have done this on all my new vehicles, theres a lot, A LOT of assembly lube and metal floating around in that pan. its good to break it in and get that stuff out. Hell my lawn mower even tells me to change my oil the first time at 5 hours lol.

But seriously, the oil is nasty at 500 miles. after that just do 3k-3500 with a good conventional oil

Same goes for your dealer... they might have switched to bulk semi-syn because of the Darts/Cherokee/Renegade engines but as far as factory fill goes it has always been conventional oil and nothing has indicated on paper that it has gone to semi-syn or synthetic.

Yes this is what I found also and what you said made sense.
Just thought someone here had some documented proof of factory oil.
I know Rams not saying ( other than telling me viscosity & service grade for future oil changes)

Cheers

I was always told that Dodge dealers use Pennzoil Yellow for their conventional fill..
