Hey guys,

Thinking of trading in my truck..

My question is I have LED brake lights, Pedal Commander etc. Would you guys suggest taking this off and selling them separately?

Or just leave all the stuff on the truck? I'm guessing the dealership will end up taking some of the stuff off and / or not giving me more for the added goodies..

Thoughts?

When I traded my 11 ram in I left the tonneau cover on it when I made the deal for my 21. Before I took delivery of my 21 I told the dealer I was keeping the tonneau cover. I was going to give the cover to a buddy with another 4th gen. They told me they considered the tonneau part of the trade deal and wouldn't let me take it. I highly doubt they took any accessory into consideration for the trade but whatever, it wasn't a big deal to me.

Moral of my story is, if you have accessories on the truck and you kept the original parts then swap before you let the dealer see the truck to offer a deal if you want to use them on something or have the time and means to sell them.

In my experience (and many members here) the Dealer won't value a trade any higher because of a few aftermarket parts. If it's worth your time to uninstall the parts, there's always someone who will want them.

Agree. The Tonneau Cover is a visual add, that most customers looking will see and like. "performance" modifications are things that could cause a lot of customers to pass on a vehicle. I have "modified" ALL the vehicles I have ever owned! Yet I would be wary of how that vehicle was used. I know how I drive mine, don't know how others treat their vehicles. And I usually keep mine near forever. Had the Dakota for 20 years, bought it new, it was "modified". But people in the market for it were not after a long term purchase, just a sound running truck, that could last a few years more. I put an add in Craigs list on line at 5 AM -my normal get up time- it was delivered at 1PM same day. POINT. Take the "stuff" and sell it seperate as you know the dealer doesn't want it, and may toss it. Anything ya get is more than $0.

Same input here as well. If you can take it off without it costing too much time (in your opinion) then do so and sell seperate.

Dealer will actually pay more if certain accessories are removed. Depending on where you live, certain things have to come off a truck for the dealer to sell it. Here in Alberta, light bars is one of those things. Like the others have said, if I am looking for a used truck I would not be buying one that was heavily modified. Two big issues, were they done right, and were they for show or was the truck modified to be thrashed.
