Hey all, long time no see,

We're getting our stuff in order to upgrade from our current 2015 1500 Sport 4x4 to a newer 2500 6.4. My truck is not stock so I'm wondering what everyone's opinion is on what upgrades would you be removing versus leaving on the truck. We're considering trading in at a dealer or also selling private party so if that changes an option you could answer both. I also noted where I don't have parts to swap back in and would have to buy replacements.

Upgrades:

HID kit in factory projectors
LED fog lights (no factory part to swap back in)
V6 efan with mech fan delete (no factory part to swap back in) this is one I'm worried about for a dealer trade in
Noco battery tender
Silicone oil pan heater
Catch can with drain
Remote oil filter (removing this and should work on the 6.4)
Eibach front struts set to 0.75" level (no factory part to swap back in)
Unlocked ECU with 91 tune with HPTuner dongle (I have factory ECU in box)
Ditch light forward lights
Ditch light side throw lights
GMRS radio with antenna on ditch light bracket
Ditch light brackets
Auxbeam switch panel with controller underhood
Tcase override switch
Dash cam wiring adapter from mirror power
Dual phone mount in above radio pocket
Husky rubber floor mats
In channel vent visors
Freedom Offroad rear lower control arms and trackbar (no factory part to swap back in)
Swing away toolbox in rear of bed
Backup led pod lights
Black larger exhast tips (no factory part to swap back in)

I left off the stuff that I won't be taking off like shorty headers, muffler, rear bumper, oil drain valve, ecodiesel airbox, running boards, speakers, rims/tires, tint. I might be forgetting something but I think this is most of it.

1) The only things I would consider removing are the swing away toolbox and floor mats, IF I thought they would fit in my next vehicle. If not, the next guy can have them. The rest of the small stuff just wouldn't be worth the time and a good shot a lot of it won't work on your next vehicle anyway.

2) Do no plan to get any extra money for your upgrades. Nothing wrong with what you've done with it but 90% of your list I would say "neat" or be completely indifferent to, def not going to pay above market value. Mods rarely add value, and if they do it's less than what you paid for them.

I'd remove the battery tender and the radio antenna. The dealership will remove these anyways. I'd swap the factory ECU back, aftermarket ECUs don't meet federal emissions standards and it may reduce your trucks value at a dealership, even if your area doesn't do emissions testing. Everything else is whatever.

Other than what rzr6 mentioned, I would pull the unlocked ECU and sell it with the HP Tuner. Heck, I would make you an offer if it was a '16 / '17 ECU.

Doesn't seem like your mods "require" a tune unless you did something with the e-fan conversion and some tweeks of PIDs you like..

We decided to test the trade in value first, so:

Noco battery tender, Silicone oil pan heater, Catch can with drain, Remote oil filter, Unlocked ECU with 91 tune with HPTuner dongle (I have factory ECU in box), Ditch light forward lights, Ditch light side throw lights, GMRS radio with antenna on ditch light bracket, Ditch light brackets, Auxbeam switch panel with controller underhood, Tcase override switch, Dash cam wiring adapter from mirror power, Dual phone mount in above radio pocket, and Backup led pod lights all came off.

Floor mats and swing away toolbox stayed since the part numbers are different for 5th gen HD trucks.

Depending on the trade in / sell to dealer amount then we'll consider private party sale which would likely be a couple grand more I'd imagine. Just have to deal with the public, ugh.

Hold on to it, the more stelantis ruins Rams the value will far exceed what new Rams are. You cant possible think trading it in is the move on an 11 year old truck. Be real careful with that one.

Your 2500 will be a good truck.

You're always going to get more money selling private party. Just might have to wait longer to sell it.

Looking at your list of add ons, none really make it worth thousands more, so I'd expect to get close to wholesale or KBB depending on how badly they want to sell the new vehicle. Take what you can use or sell to someone else. I wouldn't bother with most of the list.

I know and that weighs heavy. Especially the known good maintenance versus who knows. But the 1500 doesn't meet our needs for the future so we need to upsize, and we can't afford dual trucks so it has to go.

As said above, there really are not many mods on your truck that the average person would care about or be willing to spend more money to buy your truck. Don't take this the wrong way but the average person doesn't care about stuff like the dual phone mount and window channel visors. Plus they have no clue what the catch can or t-case override switch is all about. The dealer won't give you anything extra either.
Wouldn't even think about removing anything that you didn't have the factory parts sitting in the garage to replace them with.

The dealer won't touch it anyway if you tell them it is a 91 tune. When you do mods make everything replacable to OEM.I have a 91 tune too

All depends on your tolerance for aggravation, dealer will be insulting low ball but painless, private buyers will still be low ball but will take up a lot more of your time and mental aggravation.

When I was looking to replace the 2010 when it was wrecked, I was looking for a newer used , local was damn poor pickings, use hi miles @ hi$ or a couple with lots of mods, I did not look very hard at them at all.
ended up with a new last yr old model still in stock for about the same money as newer used.

The dealers around here will just wholesale out a truck with lots of mods on it,
or Hi milage ones , or older stuff. Makes it hard to find cheap stuff on the larger lots.

There is a used car lot here that has a good service dept. and have been in business for about 60 yrs , bought a few older used ones from them. they usally have a 60 day return warranty
