I've got a new 2014 Ram R/T in black. I really like the looks of the hard one piece covers. Especially the Mopar cover.

There are a few things I'm not liking about the Mopar cover. The cost is a little up there. I'm not sure who makes these for Mopar but maybe it can be had for less money without a Mopar part number.

The next hurdle is the locking mechanism. I'm not sure I want to drill and rivet into my bed. Not to mention the location of the loop is less than desirable. I've considered having someone make a new loop that would use the factory holes in the tailgate. Not sure how difficult it would be.

Last but not least the difficulty of removing the cover if I need to haul something.

So what do you guys suggest? I love the looks of the Mopar cover, however there are some cons associated with it. Are there any other hard covers out there that will look nice on the R/T? What about some of the folding covers? The Bakflip VP looks pretty slick. Just looking for options.

Thanks!

Just installed a VP on my 2014 express, and am happy with it. The ease of installation and removal of the cover was a piece of cake, although it folds up very close to the rear window and doesn't interfere with a full bed. Needed to modify the hold up supports because their factory installed location was off by a half inch, had to paint / touch up rivets where paint flaked off and take a heat gun to the weather strips to make them lay down in a couple spots (cold weather install). No key lock , but if your lift gate locks then that's your security. Opens easy, unless the bed sides are high. I know it's a bit pricey, but I like the low profile one piece look. They've got good video on their site.

I'm with you... I love hard covers painted to match... I had one on my 2002 Dakota and 2004 Ram... I have the soft one now and it's just not the same... my new truck will have the hard cover again and I'm really loving the Mopar one...

When I think about how much I've actually hauled anything over the last near 4 years of ownership on this truck, the hard cover wouldn't have been a hindrance at all... it never was before... and I love the look... I'll be following this thread to see what others say and suggest... otherwise I'll be going with the Mopar.... $400 for a soft cover, a little more for a Bakflip or just pony up and get the one you really want? I choose the latter...

Yeah that's pretty nice... you can get them with the brake light too... they're probably even more than the Mopar one and likely not as readily available... definitely nice though

Tonneau are great to get a sporty look and secure what's in your truck bed. I've had two or three on various trucks and recommend ARE or Leer brands. Along with my gray hair (what's left of it) I've switched to camper shells. They are not as sporty but, more practical for securing Mountain Bikes or hauling taller gear. Anyway, whatever works for you. Check out ARE and Leer for an alternative to the Mopar cover.

I have the Ranch Sport Wrap with the charcoal headliner, lighting and keyless entry. I got a great deal at autoaccessoriesgarage.com.

Bakflip for hard flush mount is cheaper than a color match top.
Or a folding vinyl tonneau that you could replace three times for less than the cost of one hard cover.
You've got a black truck and both come in black, so that's a press on the Staples button.

Both of these options also get the h&ll out of the way so you can do some hauling--no drilling, no hydraulic cylinders. The Bakflip is aluminum and locks for security.

Your call............:argue:

I have a Extang Trifecta that came with the truck. Going to purchase a new cover here as the back corners are peeling up but pretty good for a 7 year old cover in the Northeast!

I would love a hard cover but I also don't really keep anything in the bed so the soft cover works and it's only $100 to replace it and no brackets needed.

Just depends on what exactly you want for the cover.

If you want a cover that's painted like your truck, the Undercover LUX is the way to go. It only weighs 58 pounds and is made to be easily removable from the truck.

If you like the Bakflip idea, take a look at the Undercover Flex. It's like the Bakflip but has some better features.

By the way, you can remove & reinstall a fiberglass cover by yourself with a little creativity and patience. However, it's not something that you want to do on a regular basis. For the most part you're turning your truck into a sedan.

I think I've narrowed down my choices. I'm trying to decide between the Bakflip VP, F1, Roll X, or the Mopar hard one piece cover.

My concerns on the VP and Roll X are the vinyls durability. The weather in Arizona is brutal during the summer.

I want to have a clean appearance with the cover. Which leads to my concern with the F1's looks on my truck. Not sure how it will look with the seams. I prefer the new latch system on the F1 over the VP also.

The Roll X scares me because I fear it's going to bounce around and flop over bumps due to the nature if it's design. With it rolling up it's not very rigid. Picture a garage roll up closed with wind beating against it.

Last but not least the Mopar one piece looks great but has that stupid locking mechanism. Also a pita to take off to put he pooch in the back.

Looking for some more feedback and perhaps some pics from folks who own some of these covers. What do you like, hate, wish you'd done differently etc.

Running an extang solid. Not as sexy as a cap. But more secure than a bakflio IMO (I've found you can open baks sometimes with wire hangers and time lol) the only downfall to the extang is if you want full bed access you have to take it out and store it in the cab or bed but atleast you can do it by yourself. I love mine!

I have a Roll-X and really like it. It doesn't "bounce" much and I never notice any noise from it. It's pretty slick.

Does anyone have heard about the extang revolution ?

They seems not bad, and you still have access to the full bed.
