transfer shift knob removal

anyone know if the transfer shift knob turns off or do you have to heat and twist it. Im replacing the carpet and want to remove the boot, Thanks

Normally they use a little Blue Loctite on these. You just gotta twist it to remove it. Lefty Loosy, Righty Tighty... ;)

Thanks for that. I was getting edgy about marring it . Always something, thelast bolt is always the worst.

Yup, it truly is. Before you start twisting, though, look all around the underside of the knob collar for any slots or buttons first...just to make sure there's no release.

The easey way to remove it is to...(on a 2000 ram)

1> use a seal pick to carefully pry off the insert on top of the knob. It is inserted into a lip on the knob body.
2> remove lock nut with long socket
3> unscrew knob

Thanks. Truck is getting a final de dinging and paint. I should have it back mid week and can start removing stuff for the carpet. Shes looking and acting better than new. Ill post the results with the knob and hopefully upload afew pics ( not all that computer savy).
