Well what else do you expect from a piece of iCrap? ;)

I don't think the iPhone has the Bluetooth functionality necessary for the messaging, so that one's on Apple not Chrysler (I think).

In all seriousness, the S4 is one of the most popular phones on the market, so there's no reason that the software developers at Chrysler (if they exist), can't push out an update quickly to resolve this. I may seriously consider rooting it and throwing some stock android on the phone just to get the full functionality of the messaging to work in the car. It's really convenient to receive the messages in the truck, but when the voice commands for messaging don't work, it defeats the purpose.

Hahaha... I love reading iPhone hate... Personally I've never understood it and never will...

iPhone 5 has Bluetooth 4.0 so it's more than capable of doing what it needs to. It's the fact the Chrysler hasn't made it possible IMO.

Personally, I could give two *****. I'm in my vehicle to drive, and listening to texts takes my mind off of that. There's NOTHING IMO so important that I need to read or listen to texts while driving.

I don't need my car to have "apps" either. I have a phone for that and will bluetooth Pandora or whatever I want to it.

All JMO of course...

Sounds like you should also turn off your radio/pandora since you're in your vehicle to drive.:sorry:

Funny thing about this is I know guys that just like listening to the motor and exhaust in their 53 chevy and have no problems doing this at all.

Chewy where in the hell did you even find that video?!

Anyway, just an update, it dawned on me today that it wasn't just the messaging voice commands that weren't working, but ALL voice commands. I downgraded the uconnect software to 13.15.4, and low and behold it seems like the messaging commands are working now too lol. I must have updated the uconnect software before even checking if the phone update fixed everything.

I'll confirm tomorrow that everything is working.

Iphone 5 with IOS 6.1 and jus did the latest update to the 8.4a. I can use the messaging function kind of...it will pop on the screen and let me know when I have an incoming text...I can read it on screen or listen to it. I cannot reply to it from the screen though through voice dictation. I can use my Iphone to voice dictate a text though, so I am getting about 90% functionality from everything I guess

Difference being I don't have to comprehend what's being sung and respond. That's a HUGE difference IMO.

Texting and driving is just F'n stupid! I don't even talk on the phone unless on a 4 lane divided highway. I want to see the child running out into traffic before I hit them.

That video is old! The Brits don't F around when they make a PSA!

Amen!! People can't drive nowadays with 100% focus on then road let alone texting. But that is the point of having the voice commands atleast and not the phone in one hand

This was never working for me on any version of uConnect but I just got it working and I'm on 13.19. I have a Galaxy S4 (AT&T). I was using GoSMS for text messaging and had to disable that and revert to the built-in messaging app for all defaults. It seemed to need a reboot after this. I also had to remove the "Car" location setting because this seemed to be invoking S Voice and causing problems. With all the features in the 8.4an S Voice is superfluous anyway.

I repaired a few times during testing and confirmed that it asked for messaging access each time. I had just updated to the latest release from AT&T via software updates, though based on what I know about that update I don't think it did anything to help this.

I downgraded to 13.15.4 and now all voice commands including messaging are working. Not sure if the update was corrupt for 13.19 but now I don't care because everything I use is working.

Just downloaded and installed the file the same way I did the upgrade. It doesn't seem like the system is programmed to know which version of the software is newer.

Another update...the whole thing is hit or miss. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. There's times that the "send a message" command only recognizes numbers and not contact names, and even when you use the number, it doesn't actually send the message. There's other times I can use the voice commands to dictate a message but it doesn't recognize when I receive incoming messages.

I actually have found it convenient when it works, but its annoying and becomes distracting for me when it doesn't.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but in case anyone was wondering, the Verizon Galaxy S4 now finally shows up on the Uconnect support site, and clearly shows everything is compatible except for the voice texting functions. I guess I'll have to wait for an official update for it to finally start working properly.

I have the latest update for my Truck and the iphone 5 message function is shadowed and isn't an option. All other bluetooth items work on it however.
