I have a new to me 98 1500 5.2 auto with 98k miles on it. Over filled transmission and truck started running rough and went into limp mode. No codes other than a p0455 which doesnt relate to this. Anyway, had truck towed to my place. Started it up and it will barely idle (6-7k rpms), and runs incredibly rough and sounds like there are marbles in the works. How screwed am I ?
I drained about a quart out (tastes terrible!), and no change. Dip stick is showing full when cold.
Need some advice please and thank you in advance.

Doubt the tranny overfill by 1 quart would cause the engine trouble. I would check the following:

Check oil and coolant levels
Check gas cap (p0455 = large evap system leak detected).
Check vacuum and Evap lines connections
Check all electronic connections under the hood
Check PCV
Make sure the air filter housing is attached correctly to the throttle body.

Might even consider resetting the PCM... Disconnecting negative battery cable, turn on lights and turn key to start position for a count to 20 (quick way to discharge the capacitors of all energy charge).

Good luck

Thanks Rob. Oil and coolant levels are good. Bought a new gas cap already. Drained and refilled trans. It started but ran really rough until it died and now just turns but won't fire. New plugs, new air filter (will recheck connection to tb). Im starting to think the P0455 code is the culprit. The hose to the charcoal canister had fallen apart. The 2 into one connector had rotted out. Taped it best i could (cant find a new one locally), and no change.
Again, thanks for your input. Much appreciated.
