Had SFI since I was old enough to vote, a long time ago. Still have them, expensive, but a good agent is the key. I pay cash for the small stuff so my rates stay as low as they can in this Brave New World.
Been reading about a film coating that prevents small chips for a couple of years. Any feedback on that? I'd put on the Wife's SUV since she tends to tilgate.

I got a pretty bad one but it's almost to the passenger edge so I just had it filled at Jiffy Lube for $50. They did a crummy job but at least the fill keeps it from growing. I imagine you can get kits and do a similar job yourself. If it's not in your line of sight I'd just try to stop it from growing.

I went "in the day" method to keep a rock chip fissures on the windshield from spreading. How is that you may ask? Don't laugh...really it works. I cleaned the chipped area and dried it. Went in a got my wife's clear acetone nail whatever and dabbed a small amount of acetone on the area. If it was starred, I made sure the fissure was covered with acetone. It may not look as good as the expensive pro kits but it works. I try not to over do it because it will look ugly. A little goes a long way.

Two rock chips in 3 years and the fissures have not grown. How about that?

Have the chip repair ASAP. However if you have lane keeping option, avoid replacing the windshield if possible. I had five stone chips and had the windshield replaced with OEM. Since then have had nothing but problems with the lane keeping system. Three visits to the glass place and four visits to the dealership and still not right.

I don't ignore any glass damage myself, I use kit to fill them (epoxy repair), sadly I get the ones that prism light right in front of my face in the 12x12 "vision box" that used to be enforced by law.

If it's tiny I'd just leave it go. Have had one a half inch long on my trucks windshield for over 3 years now. One on my work car roughly the same size. Neither have gotten any bigger. Wife's last rig was a little mitsubishi suv that had at least 7 small rock chips throughout. None spread. Now I have had them spread before. I just roll the dice. If they do grow and crack in the line of view then they get replaced, but until then I don't bother wasting time or money.

I have glass insurance on this truck , over and above the basic insurance coverage.
Have had 2 or 3 small chips on this windshield that the insurance paid for at my glass shop. Takes a 1/2 hr or more as they want the super glue hard before they clean it up.
These new auto wiper windshields are a lot of $
But after 10 yrs , it is getting sand blasted quite good, so I need a bird to fly up come spring.

I see the kids sitting under their tents at walmart, never checked them out.
Horsey tailer are built to find every little stone on the hi way and toss them up at new glass.
In 2005 I bought a new truck and had 15 miles on it when I had a large rock from a trailer destroyed the windshield, I had a 6 hr trip ahead with a fist sized break right in front of me.

I have has small " stars" fixed that you could not tell where they where, bit last one on this truck is a round little "cup" size of a dime and that one you can still a faint out line up in the corner of the glass.
