so after much searching I am lost as to where to start

I have seen people building a 5.7 over a 6.4 and vise versa. I currently have a 5.7 mostly stock and the plan is build a strong engine with Hell cat SC I use this truck to haul and take the family on slow rides in the mountains and my wife likes to drive it to work often (roughly 3miles round trip) I LOVE the SC sounds and as I am not looking to build 1000 hp with minimal drivetrain power loss I am sticking with the SC but what base do I start with and why?

I like the idea of starting with a different engine due to lower down time so I will most likely pick up a completely different engine to start

I believe people are running 5 or 6 PSI intercooled on stock internals. It all depends on your budget and your time. If you want a Hellcat just get a Hellcat, because it's going to take a LOT of work to get a 3 ton truck to perform like that.

You can bolt on a SC to that engine but you don't want to exceed 6 - 8 PSI or you will have some piston, ring and possibly internal component issues.

If you want to boost beyond that, then using the 5.7L engine to make a forged 6.1L (372 cu in) motor would be a good plan. Or buy a 6.1L or 6.4L shortblock and build from there.

From the first post, it sounded like he wanted more than 6 to 8 pounds of boost.

So honestly I am not looking to have this keep up with my Cummins but I would like to see in the 450 to 500 whp but still reliable. Like I said I have built allot of rigs but never a Hemi. As near as I can tell my desired rating is not a long shot but there seems to be widely varying opinions on how to do it in a reliable fashion. Like I said no desire to race it looking for it to pull better and be more peppy and fun to play with. But it NEEDS to be reliable

Unless your Cummins is a 12 sec truck all you need is a supercharger, intake, long tubes, exhaust and a custom tune and you should be able to easily outrun 99% of everything on the road. I would also think about gears if you don't already have 3.92's I would upgrade to 4.10s and you're definitely going to need to upgrade the transmission with that kind of power.
