One of the best things Dodge did with the Ram truck in recent years is too make a unified wiring system for most all of their basic functions. Which means if you have a 130res radio with UCONNECT you can hookup the USB Port that is hidden in the dash. All you need to do is pull the glove box out, remove the one screw that holds the top empty hole for the upper glove box it will pop out very easily and to the left hand side on the wiring harness you will see a bundle of black wire and in that lies your USB connector. I had a USB extension cable and hooked it to the factory connector and dropped it down into my glove box where I plug in which ever USB flash I want to use. Also works the IPOD my friend had. I will post pictures tonight. Have to take it apart again to show. Nice thing also it plays folder list you can make and it reads my 16 gig flash I have in it now. I will also put up link for the free software you can use to make compatible play lists you can read from the radio screen. Nothing like FREE STUFF they charge you for anyway HA HA!
UPDATE FROM ORIGINAL POSTING:
Picture 1. Upper left picture shows how i sliced longways down the black tape CAREFULLY and exposed the black plug you can see under the cross member. REMEMBER!!! This wiring is done by human beings or so they say so each cable is going to be a inch or two different in its location. I did hookup two other Ram trucks for friends who have the same truck as mine and each with the UCONNECT installed had this cable buried up in the dash.
Picture 2. ( RIGHT) Is a picture of the USB PLUG and what's even more outrageous is that Dodge installed one that Light's up when the Accessory is turned on to power the radio.
Picture 3 & 4 . (Bottom 2) Are the pictures of my extension plugged into the factory USB cable. Bottom glove box below with the extension cable attached to the trucks usb port with an 8 gig flash in it. I have used a 16gig without any problems. ONE THING it takes it a while to figure out whats on the usb drive after that it works fine so have some patience. Now the final thing. You can make playlist which appear under list functions on the radio when the usb is installed. You need some software to make these playlist and a very good working FREE version is (PLAYLIST CREATOR 3.6) do a GOOGLE SEARCH FOR THE TITLE. it saves your playlist in a .m2u file which your 130res or even the touch screen units can read and play. If you have any questions text me.
ENJOY
