I have an 2004 RVision 30QBSS travel trailer that I have towed with a 2000 Durango (5.9) for 13 years. It is time to give up the Durango. I am looking at replacing it with a 2012 Ram 1500 regular cab standard box (6.4) with a 4.7 V-8 and 3.55 axle ratio with tow package (on board brake controller). The 30' camper is about 4100# dry weight. Can anybody weigh in on if I have the right vehicle picked out? It is 16" longer than the Durango with 5" more wheelbase but the Durango had a max trailer weight of 7350 against 6400 for the 2012 Ram 1500. I do use a weight distributing hitch and generally tow less than 100 miles from home about 4-6 times a year.

Thanks :)

I have a 2003 Durango with the 5.9 that I originally bought in 2008 for my eldest daughter to use while she was in college. I really liked the 5.9, it is a strong running motor. My daughter has recently moved up to a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee and now the Durango will be passed on to my youngest daughter who gets her license in July.

I also think you should look for a 5.7 for your new tow vehicle.
