Default cam or gears?
Hello everyone, question... I have a 94 1500 5.9, bone stock pu, I'm going to be buying and towing a two horse trailer, I haven't bought the trailer yet but I'm guessing between my horses, which average about 1200 a piece, and the trailer itself, the whole tow load will be 5,500-6,000 lbs, What would be the best route for extra power, a cam replacement, or steeper gears , go from 355 to 390's? also will the stock computer be compatible with a new torque profile camshaft?

Gears and 4.10 or 4.56, if you're going to do it make it worthwhile. 4.56 will tow amazingly but 4.10 will ride the highway better.

To do a cam correctly it'll cost you about the same for much more headache. Factory intake and heads don't support much any camshaft and the pcm needs to be reprogrammed to account for the new behavioral aspects. This is a problem for your 94 as well being obd1. Tuning an obd1 requires sending off the pcm, trying it out when you get it back and datalogging then sending it off again. This is done until the tune is good and takes weeks. Not to mention the only known regular obd1 tuner is shit. Could obd2 swap but that's a headache though the tuning is both better and easier
