Default overheating cummings
when i go down the road the truck overheats and shoots out the coolant out of the reservoir untill there is about 1/4 of the coolant left in the radiator. when i slow down the truck cools down. im not getting any white smoke coming out of the exhaust. i have already replaced the water pump cause it got messed up and have already replaced the radiator and it still overheats.

Welcome to RF... I didn't see you mention so I thought I would ask the simple first... How about the thermostat? Did you replace it with the radiator or water pump? Hoses too?

Also, you said no white smoke but are you getting and water in you engine oil?

sent thru a cloud of smoke

if you did swap the t-stat. Did you make sure you put it in facing the correct way?

What about any mods to your truck? You provide very little info in your post.

How many miles? I've seen some tired diesels in the big rigs overheat under load from combustion gas getting into the coolant. Hope that's not the case.

Is there a possibility that your head gasket is blown?

That's what I think. Especially when he said it blows all the coolant out of the reservoir.

this is probably a dumb question, but did you bleed the air out of the system when you changed the water pump and radiator?

The overheating part would make sense if there were air trapped in the cooling system. The fact that the system is becoming pressurized to the point it forces practically all the coolant out, sounds like the cooling system is part of the combustion chamber. BUT, you are right, bleeding the cooling system is good (and cheap) troubleshooting step vs. a new hg.
