Well, just got my quote back from the local drivetrain shop for either 4.56 or 4.88s. He said out the door I will be right at $2k with a free fluid change and inspection after break-in. Also gives a 1 year warranty on his work.

Now to save up the extra pennies and decide which to go with...decisions.

I have been trying to find a shop here in the St. Louis area to doe the gear swap on my 2018. I am wanting to go to the 4.56 for towing needs. So far the shops around here say there is not a gear set to support the change for this. Can someone share the part numbers or manufactures that they had installed? Thanks in advance.

That's a great price! If your on stock tires I think you'll be happy with either. Anything over stock go with the 88s.

And if your going larger than 35’s you need 5.13’s.

I actually think 513’s even work well with 35’s. JMO though. All depends on what you’re looking for

I'm running 275/65/20, so right at 34". I am mainly looking for a little more bottom end while towing my 5th wheel But, being in West Virginia I'll probably go 4.88 since we have so many hills and mountains.

Due to bed rail clearance while towing, I dont think I'll ever go bigger on tires

4.88’s will be a great match to 34’s

Man...I may rehear but I plan on 456s, maybe-maybe 488.. I run 285/75r18 (35) and I tow heavy (15k roughly) a lot, plow commercially with just the 373 it does damn well...the idea that 513s or deeper is just too much for me especially for someone whom logs around 40k a year

Tell me,

What do 5.13’s have anything to do with 40,000 miles a year?

I don’t understand your point sir.

The truck will pull SOOOO much easier. I run the same tire size as you and have 4.88’s. If i towed 15,000 id be all over 5.13’s

I’m looking at 4.88s for stock tires. I have 4.10s, and don’t feel like 4.56 is enough of a jump to be worth the money.

The mileage driven is just to point out how much the truck is used with the current configuration which seems adequate but not ideal... 513s just seem too deep of a gear-set for regular driving, towing I can see it but there rate a lot of empty miles to log..gas mileage isn’t a concern as it is abysmal anyway! I do know the deeper gears will save the transmission over time in my application...?if I had a shop around that would know it all out for 2k I’d be all over an upgrade while adding some traction aids

Hell no that would almost be a waste of money.

I believe that the gears for the 4.56 and 4.88 ratios must be chosen from an after market company, Nitro or Yukon, etc. AAM produced only OEM gearing for the RAM and those were the 4.10 and 5.13.

This was the reason I finally made the decision for the 5.13 vs 4.88 and I figured if I went too low then I'd just get a bigger tire. But the ratio is not too low with 35s or bigger (my understanding is with a 35 to 37" tire the 4.88 and 5.13 are very close in engine rpm anyway) .

Also, my gear guy told me I wouldn't hear the AAM gears (he was right but wouldn't bother me if I did, it's usually minimal) and my break in period was "drive it like I stole it" and not 500 miles. He whispered that part. I still tried to be cool w it.

I posted part numbers but I'd be happy to do it again if anyone wants. This was for the 2500 11.5 rear and 9.25 front diffs.

I read what others paid and I woulda much preferred a 2k price tag instead of 2700 that I threw down but I'd do it again every time. The regear changed my truck beyond description, all I can say is If in doubt then experience it and decide. I'd let someone here drive it if they wanted to. (Or was watch me drive it, I do like to drive it lol)

My front is AAM from GM my shop was able to fit it but nothing for the rear only after market. Yukon and Nitro are made in the same factory in Korea or China. I went with the Nitro. 4.56's

With the 5.13 they are aam?
How does your truck get down the highway st say 70-75 mph
Any info on this gear set and how your truck operates would be awesome
Like fuel mileage
Rpm at certain speeds etc
The shop i found to do it was right at 3k for everything
Gear ratio didn't seem to effect the price
Thank you for any info
I'm hoping to fo this soon and doing all the research i can
I'm thinking 5.13 that 6.4 is a beast
I also have 35 tires

Thanks for the feedback. If you have the parts list handy I'd appreciate if you posted it again. Didn't see anything browsing your recent posts.
