Building a ’17 RAM 2500 Laramie CC 4X4 w/ Cummins in the ramtrucks.com website. It’s pointing me to the 6-Speed Automatic 68RFE Transmission and 3.42 Axle Ratio. I’ll be towing a 9000-10000lb travel trailer. Is this the recommended transmission and axle ratio for the 6.7-Liter I6 Cummins® Turbo Diesel Engine to tow a 10K lb trailer?

Thanks,

Bob

Just went an played with tool, looks like 3.42 is your only choice with the Cummins. Funny, the Aisin tranny is not an option any longer? I built my dream truck a few months back and it was available.

My bad, my dream truck was a 3500, you apparently can't get the Aisin in 2500.

The 3.42 axle is the only ratio in a SRW with a Cummins regardless of transmission. Only DRW trucks with the Aisin have the 3.73 or 4.10 gears option with a Cummins. A 9-10k travel trailer would be a walk in the park for the Cummins with the 68RFE and 3.42.

Here is a video of a 2500 Cummins 68RFE with 3.42 gears towing over 12k up a mountain road in high altitudes.

As SouthTexan stated, a 68rfe and 3.42 gears are your only option in a 2500 Cummins. To get the Aisin you'd have to go up to a 3500 and to be able to change the gear ratio from the factory you'd need to order a DRW.

In a hemi equipped truck that would be correct but with a Cummins they're all 3.42's unfortunately. That's been the case for all 2013+ SRW Cummins equipped trucks. Definitely a disappointment in my opinion. I'd like to see the Aisin and 4.10 gears available in a 2500. That would be my ideal setup.

An upgrade to the 4.10 gear is the best $50.00 option ANY truck owner can make. Unfortunately the dealership douches who do the ordering have NO CLUE what REAL truck people need......

Although the 3.42 pulls like a champ, I wouldn't mind having the option for an Aisin with a 3.73 in a 2500 either.
