Need advice: should I buy or not?

2011 Ram 5.7 Hemi SLT 4wd
220k miles

Small dealer bought at an auction so we have no clue on history and cannot get service records.

My wife test drove and loved it; however, the salesman said he is aware the truck has a miss (his words) and that he intends on having the truck checked out.

The truck has been listed for 9 days so it seems odd to me that he "intends on having it checked out". I wouldn't consider buying it until after it's checked on but even if it is something small, the mileage is scary.

The truck is extremely clean with leather interior, power sunroof, and power back glass. Looks stock to me. Title is clean (Not rebuilt).

You can pull a Carfax if you haven't already. That will show any service that was performed by a dealership and or insurance claims. That is fairly high mileage by industry standards (13k-20k a year depending on who you talk to). Depends on what kind of driving as well, i.e. all highway, off-road, city etc. With that being said, as I was shopping for mine, I saw many with similar mileage for a few thousand more.

Either way it sounds like a bad deal. Optioned as a Laramie on kbb it's only worth $9,000.

Agreed.. even if it were kilometers up here in Canada that price is high.

I.e. buddy at work just picked up a 2011 outdoorsman for 21k cdn. $ with 101000kms (60k miles)

. I just bought a 2014 3.6L quad cab outdoorsman with 95kms for $21,000 Canadian. Heated seats/wheel, 8.4 screen and cluster, center console, folding heated mirrors, 20" oem black wheels. (I'm super happy with it and is probably one of the best buys i ever bought :favorites13:

Coming from a Nissan titan before i can't believe the fuel milage on the Ram. My Titan i was filling up once a week. The Ram i can go for 2+ weeks without filling the tank. Big savings right there :happy107:

100% agree. Definitely way too many miles. With that many miles it has to be somebody's old work truck but they just took good care of it. There's a better deal waiting for you out there

Yep....PASS.

Way to many miles for that kind of money....$6000 maybe, but I just would look elsewhere.

Besides the wear and tear on the motor and transmission, everything else is warn.....ball joints, A/C, steering gear, etc., etc., etc.

I'd bet you would wind up rebuilding the entire truck over the next few months...a real potential money pit for sure.

An "engine miss" could be bad valves, timing issues, bad computer, etc., etc.

It was probably at the auction because it was a "trade in" with the owner knowing it was on its last legs....run (don't walk) away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Run... far away and never look back... too many miles too high of price take that money and put it towards a newer truck with 1/10 of those miles

I was tempted by a Laramie with 150k for I think 15k or so once. Was super clean but ended up going with a 2017 with 10 miles.

My previous truck was a silverado I bought with over 100k and I put almost 3000 into repairs in it in a year. And then sold it with all the repairs done so hopefully its better for the next guy but I lost my ass.
