I saw an ad for a 5.9 litre hemi, is that a thing? Because i thought that the 5.9 was the cummins engine.

The 5.9 gas engine is the 360, it's not a hemi and I believe was last offered in 2004

My 97 Ram 1500 with the 5.9 got around 13 mpg... It was definitely thirsty!

Had one in a 2003 Durango I bought my daughter when she was in college. Was a strong running engine and I liked it, but as others said 14 to 16 MPG even when driven gentle.

Magnum yes...never heard it called the magnum hemi....as that would just be wrong.

The magnum hemi was a 5.7 engine, not 5.9, and it was a true hemi engine unlike the 360 cid engine.

It was a strong engine, but as has been said, thirsty. I had a 360 I built in the truck in my avatar (non-magnum version), and while it never got great mileage, it also didn't get terrible mileage either....in that truck with 40" tires and only 4.56 gears since that was the biggest that fit in the 9 1/4 rear at the time, I'd still get 8-9 mpg, and it also had enough umph to push that 6000 lb barn sized truck to a 9 sec 1/8 mile, chirping the tires on the 1-2 as it did it.

I had a 5.9 02 Dakota R/T it was built and was a monster. The hemi engines are 5.7 and 6.4.

i never bothered to check, that was what the sales man called it when buying my first ram. ended up buying a cummins 2500.

I just delt with it. You have a heavy suv with a big ass V8 4x4. Adds up to **** poor mpg. I'd suggest easy driving and light on the pedal.

Yea i thought so. I was just wondering if there was any engine mod that would give it alittle better mileage.
