Is this the same Kohldad from RV.NET? Our last trip was about 950 miles. Speed varied a lot driving all over Death Valley NP. Lots of 2 lane roads inside the park with speed limits from 60 down to 25 mph for long distances. On the main freeways I kept it between 65 and 70 mph. We also did a lot of dirt roads at slow speed. I averaged 10 mpg throughout the whole trip. I should also add there were lots of long hill climbs getting to the park and inside the park.

We took Jubilee pass rd. coming from badwater to get out. That was a long continuous climb and the truck did well. Mostly staying in 4th gear with an occasional downshift to 3rd in tow haul mode. Speed limit was 45 mph until the road widened then changed to 60 mph. I have the 4.10 rear end and I am glad I didn't have the 3.73.

Yep, same kohldad. I'm hoping for an overall average of 11 when the TC is on board but will be satisfied with anything over 10. I can live without the power of the CTD, but the fuel mileage cut is going to hurt. Will have to keep reminding myself some of that will be because I'm switching to an auto.

This was the first trip we took with the camper on the new Ram and I believe it will do better. Couple of things that probably affected mileage on this trip was constantly battling high winds throughout the trip. A lot of unusually long hill climbs. My truck only has 2500 miles on the clock. Lastly the campers fresh water tank was full on the way up and we didn't dump until close to home. On the bright side I have been averaging 12 to 14 mpg empty mix driving.

I have not posted in a long while, but I concur with your post. I had a CTD, and I do miss it. Gasoline is cheap, however. I do tow a fiver weighing more than 10k, however. I have tracked my mileage for over 6,000 miles...sitting at 13 or so on EVIC, and fuelly shows about the same. I think the EVIC gets more accurate the more miles you add up.

Boy, this thread has grown. Crazy there is not a seperate section...I was searching for something here tonight, and it took FOREVER!!

Please share your opinion..[/QUOTE]

I wish I would have gotten a Cummins just because. I would rather have it just in case I want to tow something above 10000 pounds. For the cost of the oil changes and the horrible fuel economy I think the Cummins would pay for itself before my loan would be payed off.

I took my truck in because I keep smelling antifreeze around the front when I get out. I tank shows that it is down to the minimum line and it was at the max.

Funny you say that. There's been a couple times I thought I smelt any freeze by the right front.

Ya, same here. Even put cardboard under truck but can't seem to find where is coming from.

After a little research I found some on another forum that took it to dealer and they replaced the coolant hoses and flushed system. Something to do with the oat coolant they put in it.

Picked up the truck from the dealer. They could not find any leaks or smell. Had it for two days. I said I understand but wanted it know so if something does come up it is on the record.

They did what they call a star search and there was nothing there at this time. So we will see what happens.

I smell it with mine too after driving it. I don't see any leakage anywhere though.

As for the fuel tank size! I can remember if it's 31 or 35 gallons! I usually fill up when light comes on and put 26 to 28 gallons in it.

The window sticker and owners manual differ on the actual size of the gas tank. The most I've put in mine was 26 or so gallons when the light came on and the needle was laying on Empty, it should be a 31 or 33 gallon tank.
