Hello, first post here!

Never been a pickup truck owner but I've always wanted one, not really for offroading and mostly used for a 25 mile each way commute to work, occasional lumber etc for DIY projects. I currently drive an infiniti g35 that gets 20 to the gallon the way i drive so not too concerned about mileage losses.

I've looked at a bunch, new used etc and have figured out I can't afford new, I'm looking to spend 28-30K max.

I have found a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Quad Cab Big Horn edition, 4x4 with the HEMI ...it has 55K miles on it, carfax is clean.

a) That's a lot of miles, i've usually only bought small cars with under 25-30K miles on them. It was first bought in fall 2009 so that is 27.5K miles per year. Any thoughts on that, and upcoming maintenance issues? I've never owned an American vehicle either so i'm a little leery of all the rumors (myths?) about reliability compared to my Honda and Nissan cars.

b) The G35 has a pretty small backseat. Anyone able to compare how big it is relative to the Quad Cab? I know it's no Crew cab but if i don't go even smaller than i already have, then it's not a concern at all for me.

If you're looking to spend that much, look into the Express. You can get a Hemi with 20s for upper 20k. It limited on options but that's why its a lower price.

I have a Quab Cab and plenty of room and still have a 6-1/2 feet bed to haul stuff

The Express is pretty darn limited for me as a daily driver... coming from a nice infiniti i don't want to exactly hit the lower end of the range just to save a buck...instead I'm willing to buy used to move up in options while saving aforementioned buck... But are you also implying that 55K miles is a lot? Don't want to imagine you're saying that, if you're not so looking to clear it up...

thanks!

I never mentioned ..dealer wants about 26K for this one.

Welcome to the forum. :) That is high mileage for a 2010 but if the truck has been taken care of there shouldn't be any issues. By the mileage, maintenance wise, the truck prolly should have already had the plugs changed, tranny serviced, and maybe the differentials serviced.

I would think you could buy a new 11 from the dealer with the rebates they have right now. A 40k slt quad cab with a 10k end of year rebate should put you at your top end of your pricing. 55k on a 2010, your bumper to bump warranty is already gone, I am not sure what the powerterrain warranty is on a used truck.

I've seen 2010 and 2011 models here, quad and crew cab, leather, nav... everything with anywhere from 6,000-30,000 for $27,000-$32000.

welcome to RF. That is a considerable amount of miles, but for it to have that many miles chances are its mostly highway miles...ie a lot less of the stop and go driving and short trips(less wear and tear)

(first post hi guys)

OP in your price range i think you can do a LOT better than 55k miles. i figure you can pull a '10 or even '11 with low mileage in that price range, even with the big horn package you mentioned

Go back to the dealer with a lower offer or check the lot for other trucks.
