Okay so i have a 2016 ram 1500. I just bought some new rims and tires for it (posted in another thread). Anyways, the new tires and rims came pre-mounted/ balanced and with TPMS sensors. From what i saw online i was told i needed to go get these "flashed/ associated" with my vehicle. So i installed me rims and tires the other day and drove around town with no issues. I had no code lights on or error messages. I was shocked, so i checked the vehicle info and checked the tire pressure reading and they were all reading in the upper 30's. I was thinking that maybe it was just still reading my stock rim/tires pressures and hadnt figured out they were gone yet. So flash forward to today when i get in my truck and my error light is no now saying my tires are reading 32, 32, 33, 36. Im like okay thats weird. So i go to the gas station to check the tires and sure enough the tire gauge is reading those exact things. I filled my tires up some to 42 PSI (what i saw recommended online) and i check my vehicle info again and now all my tires are reading 42.

So am i crazy? or did my vehicle some how manage to learn the new TPMS without me having to get them "flashed"? Or is my truck playing games with me? Help? Maybe? anyone ever had new rims/ tires put on with TPMS ?

Seems fine to me. If you filled them up to 42 and they're reading 42, sounds like it did it itself. Enjoy the less work!

On my Challenger when I swap from summer to winter wheels the car will automatically read the new sensors after a block or two. I've never had to "program" anything.

its normal. the truck should pick up the new sensors quickly. very rarely do you need to get them programmed to the truck.

you only need new tires flashed when you go up in size.

As stated above, the vehicle will " learn " the new tpms, problem avoided. :)

reprogramming tire size and reprogramming tpms sensors are two different things.

This much i know. I was told that 33x12.5x20 isnt a stock tire size so most likely cant do anything about it. i went from a stock 31.4 to 33.2 (corrected) size tire. if i did my math correctly 33.2/ 31.4= 1.06 so whatever mileage i drive on my odometer if i times it by 1.06 that will give me the corrected mileage for hand calculating MPG. Obviously the real time mpg read out will be wrong but the corrected should give me a general idea. it didnt go to 35's or anything so the odometer really shouldnt be effected that much.

They should be able to program you to a 285/70/17 which is what size the Ram Rebel comes with since they sell a truck with this size of tire.
285/70/17 is 32.71" tall.

true that would be closer. I will have to call them up and ask what they can do for me.

Dealer quoted me $80 to flash a new tires size.... they said they are not positive if i would be able to do it or not because some models lock out the feature. if they got in and couldnt do it they would not charge me.... is the $80 worth it. The tires i had stock were 31.4" corrected and the ones i just put on are 32.8" corrected. so its only 1.4" of a difference.
