Warranty work question UPDATE*************

Hey all, I took my truck in this morning for a few minor issues. Main issue is a grinding vibration coming through the brake peddle and steering wheel only when the a/c is on, followed by the coolant smell (thought I'd have them check it since the truck was there). Couple other minor clunks Clank, etc...nothing big really.

Dropped it off at 8am. Around 3:30 they called and said they want to keep the truck over night because they were just getting to a/c. Went to the dealer, they gave me loaner (2016 1500 ecodiesel big horn, which is ******* btw). I asked the service guy if they found anything with the a/c. He said tech hasn't said anything yet. Well. I asked if I can grab something out of my truck. When I went to my truck. The center bezel was completely removed, dash was taken apart.

My question is would they still tear the truck apart if they did not feel or hear the grinding ? Could they say "we couldn't feel it or duplicate the vibration but still tore into your dash"? I'm asking becaus I asked the service guy a few times, all he said. Tech hasn't told me anything, he is still checking.

I hope they duplicated it and that's why my dash is torn apart.

Thanks

Hi zeddy,

In my experience calling dealerships, the technicians don't always immediately update the service advisors/writers throughout the entire diagnostic process--they may wait until the diagnostic is complete. However, since you were at the dealership, I would have hoped they would have had a discussion to answer you, so if there's any follow up I can do for you, please let me know.

i would think they found something before opening up the dash. not sure what in the dash would be causing your issues though.

As a tech, I don't tell the advisor anything before tearing into a dash. I do my diagnostics before reporting anything. Most Ac noises are actuators, and pulling dash stuff is the best way to isolate noises i would have done the same.

Thank you all, I was hoping they found something before tearing up the dash. Now if they don't find anything, i'm worried i'm going to have squeeks and rattles on top that grinding/vibration. It's just real annoying having that vibration. I tried to get used to it but I just can't, it's been about a year now. It get so bad, i'll leave the A/C off in the summer, even if it's 100+ degrees just so i don't have to feel that.

Zac0490, does yours go away when you turn the A/C off?

I'll keep you updated....

Just picked up my truck. They said the actuator doors were bad. both were replaced. They also told me they had several updates to do:
ITBM (what the hell is that?)
ABS
PCM

I also told them of the coolant smell i get sometimes. They pressure tested the coolant system and there were no leaks. So i'm pretty stoaked I got my truck back. That 1500 was little. ahahahahah
Thanks again.

Just picked up my truck from the dealer. The paperwork said "retrenched a/c lines and saved them." Couldn't speak with advisor because he had to leave early. What does that mean?

I still got the same grinding . Second time around..... advisor felt the grinding this morning too. He said might be a bad compressor. Called him and left a message. Hopefully third times a charm.

So far they replaced two actutor doors and retrenched the lines.....and of course no go....

Took the truck back in last Wednesday morning. Service advisor sent a tech out. He felt the grinding vibration and told the advisor he knew what I was talking about. In the mean time, I asked him what detrenching meant....he said one of the a/c houses was loose at which point he was able to rescure them???

My truck has been in since wed. After several attempts to get a hold of my advisor and with the help of Kori (ramcares)on Friday%, advisor told me they still haven't figured out what is causing it. They feel/hear that grinding vibration but are unable to figure out what's causing it. He said they have Chrysler involved as well as a field tech because this issue is new to them.

In way I'm glad it's going the way it's going. I'm happy they didn't tell me "we can't figure out what's the cause therefore it's normal" . I actually give kudos to ram for keeping my truck to find what the problem is. When my titan had and issue, Nissan would either blame my exhaust when in fact it was a shock issue or it was normal.

This weekend was one of the reasons why bought this truck. I guess **** happens for a reason. Can always replan trips. This is the third time my trucks been in. Hopefully I get her back soon.

So today, I pick up my truck for the grinding vibration issue when my a/c is on. Vibration is still there. This is the third attempt. The first time, it was there two days, they change actuator doors. Second time, just one day. They "detrenched the A/C lines". This time, 9 days, they said the noise was coming from the A/C compressor.

I'm just so livid right now. I called the service adviser and left a message. Still hasn't called me back. What are my options now? I will not take it back to these guys. During the 9 day stay, the adviser would tell me he will call me with updates. I had to call, leave messages, ask other people to get an update. Horrible. I had a pair of oakleys on the passenger seat when I took it in. I know for a fact because i put them on the seat so I could open the center console. It's gone. I asked about it they said, they'll ask around and of course no one turned them in. Maybe it fell out when they tore my dash apart when replacing the actuators.

I had to cancel a weekend trip this last weekend because the truck was at the shop. This trip was one a reason why I bought my ram 4x4. I reschuled it for next weekend. I can't keep burning my time from work the pick up/ drop off my truck.

I know that whatever it is, it's going to fail as soon as my warranty expires (knowing my luck). Do I take it to another dealer? Do I get an attorney, contact corporate? What do I do? Please help...

Picked up my truck again for the 4th time. Took it in for that grinding vibration when thev a/c is on along with popping from the suspension. THey denied doing the body mount tsb because I have a leveling kit, that's another issue, back to my a/c issue.

They said they can't find out what it is. They pretty much said sorry, we can't find what's causing it. We did all we can and handed me my keys. What do I do now? Ramcares is involved. Can't get a hold of her till Monday. Do I seek an attorney now? Or just walk away, and hope whatever it is breaks with in a year before warranty expires? I really do love my truck. But I'm starting to get really frustrated with this.

Lol *** me, I wish I could get away with doing that as a FCA tech when I run into difficult problems. That just sounds like a ****** dealer or they're hoping you'll just go somewhere. If it was me I'd try another dealer or see what Ramcares can do, I know he's already involved.
