Have a nail in the tire, looks about less than a 1/4 inch into the tire. I could plug it, but i've heard it's not a good option.

What climate do you live in? I had a nail in my tire that I plugged one week after buying the tire and it latest until I got a new tire.
I plug mine and patch my wife's. Patches are better

I had a bolt go all the way through right between my treads on my trail grapplers, plugged it. I've put 20k miles easy on them since the plug and that includes off roading (I ride enduro and some spots are a gnarly couple miles into the woods) and have had no issue whatsoever. Maybe I'm lucky idk but, that's my experience

I haven't had issues with plugs in the past.

To me it's whatever you feel comfortable with. I've used many plugs over the years and never had any issues. Some tire shops won't plug a tire, they claim it's not safe, however I think it's just so they can make more money by breaking the tire down, patching it, rebalancing it, then reinstall. My last repair was on my wife's van and since they were fairly new tires and I didn't want just anybody breaking down her black mags I took it to the dealership thinking they would patch it. They put a plug in it, hell, I could have done that. I always carry a pug kit in both my vehicles.

I have a plug in my driver front tire that's been solid for about 15,000 miles now if that helps...

I typically would have it patched but I think either are fine.

Do I have a bad alternator? Truck would not start whatsoever in the morning, radio and lights still worked, and tonight it started but with some hesitation. The touchscreen isn't responsive anymore either. Should I just get an extended warranty? It's still under factory warranty.

The issue with plugs, they claim, is that the steel belts eventually cut through them and they can fail or pop out/leak. A worst case scenario that most will never run into (if plugged properly). Patching is better. I've used dozens of plugs over the years without issue.

The other reason shops are reluctant to plug is its sometimes hard to see tire damage caused by running flat without unmounting the tire, and if you are going to unmount might as well patch.

That small of a hole I see no reason it can't be plugged. I hit something on the highway a few months back and plugged it to get it home. It was still leaking so I had it patched. But if it wasn't leaking the next morning it would still have a plug in it
