Hey guys im looking to change my front end a little bit. My plan is to possibly paint my headlight housings black (the inside chrome bezel) and im curious if i should do anything to the grill. Should i paint the inserts or something I'm just looking for opinions to see what would look good.

Tough choice. Mine is all blacked out (came from the factory that way) but I've seen other trucks that used an aftermarket mesh or a factory brushed aluminum insert in the grill which looks pretty good, IMHO.

I like the blacked out look of headlights as long as they are projector type. You don't wanna black out the reflector portion if you use halogens because that will render the light output to almost nuthin'.

Here's my 2007 MegaCab with some RetroShop touches, i.e., the projectors, shrouds and paint:

It had also come stock with a chrome grill & black inserts:

I swapped that out for a body colored grill and brushed aluminum inserts:

Here's my stock projectors on the 2014 CC:

and the stock blackout grill:

So that's just a couple of ideas. I just like the subtle looks of monochrome colors with little to no chrome.

Im going to be upgrading to 55w hid's. I dont think i want to paint the whole grill black just because there is a lot of chrome still on the truck. maybe the inserts would look good painted.

It looks good the way it is. If you black it entirely out it will be just like everyone elses' truck.

All the rams running around my neck of the woods are stock. Occasially I will see a aftermarket grill. I personally think the blacked out center looks great with other black items on your truck like wheels etc.

I agree, the wide mouth grilles look nice, but I wouldn't go for that style unless it suited that truck. The just look out of place to me if all you have is a 2" front level and stock stance. They look way better on a lifted truck with wide tires.

Make sure to use primer first. I applied 6 coats of gloss black and 4 coats of clear.

Color match and the factory chrome insert looks really good with the dark color

For what its worth, I would leave it as is or get a paintable shell and leave the chrome mesh alone. I think the black mesh with the chrome shell would cheapen the look of your truck. I love the all black accents on colored trucks. However, not a fan of the completly blacked out look, that is just the current fad. Black trucks with minimal chrome looks classy! My 2 cents

Then again, I may be a little biased.
