I have a 2001 ram 1500 with the 5.2 and one day my reverse just stopped working out of the blue. It still drives fine in all the forward gears but has no reverse. You can feel it engage into reverse but give it some gas and nothing happens. You can also shift it down into lower gears and nothing happens. So I plan on either swapping it for another 46re or rebuilding this one. Just not sure if there is anyway to upgrade it to handle a little more. I have 35” tires on the truck and when I’m at highway speeds it’s hard for it to stay in overdrive, it shifts back and fourth between overdrive and fourth until I turn over drive off. Just need a little help on what to do.

What gearing do you have? More than likely your gearing is causing your overdrive problems and with 35s, you should be at least at 4.10 and ideally at 4.56. As far as your reverse, could be a couple things but best to do is take it to a qualified mechanic and get it checked out before you start throwing money at it. Overall it's not your transmission, it's your gears and with 4x4 you have to do front and rear.

I appreciate the advice, I didn’t even consider taking it to a mechanic. Just figured I’d swap transmission’s cause I figure that’s what they’ll want to do and I know I can do it a lot cheaper
