It sure is.

Parts diagrams for 2012+ show 3 different transmission line setups for Hemi trucks.....6 speed, speed with TBV and 8 speed.

I'm of the opinion that my truck is working as it's intended to work.....i.e. higher trans temps. I'm just not happy with those temperatures and now I know that trucks without TBVs operate at a temp level that I would be more comfortable with.

That being said, now I'm really curious what option group resulted in the TBV being installed at the factory.
Not sure , I know I have the towing package with the larger xsmn oil cooler ...

Do you have the tow package?

That stopped being a thing with the 4thgens. All Hemi 1500s got the same trans cooler/ac condenser.....same part # for all.

That being said....yes, window sticker and option print out from dealer lists "Heavy Duty Transmission Oil Cooler" and "Heavy Duty Engine Cooling".

Ok this is definitely strange. Why would only some trucks get this bypass valve?

It's almost like he has the temp set up as the 2500s , over on the xmn oil temp thread the 2500 guys are reporting 170s ?
I wonder if the 66RFE /2500 trucks have these TBV ' s ?

Both the 66RFE and 68RFE have TBVs but it is not the same part # as the 65RFE in the 1500's.

Actually, to clarify, they're listed as having them available in the service part diagrams.

OK sorry about the ****** pictures they're actually really ****** up I think mirror image for some reason but they look fine on my phone. that happened when they got uploaded for some reason.

So I put my son to bed and had a little bit more time to look and I do not see the infamous TBV.

Did some research, seems like 2wd trucks got these bypass valves and/or cold weather climates, can anyone confirm?

Hmmmm I got nothing then.......
Me neither ? ?

Seems like either a certin package type deal or an error during the build ?

Either way 170° probably wouldn't hurt the ATF+4 fluid but I'd be shortening my drain cycles considerably ....

Yeah I'd be doing 20-30k intervals max with those temps.

Only thing I can think of is it's a cold weather package of some sort...

Checked mine out of curiosity.
(2013 1500 SLT Hemi 5.7, tow package, 2WD, 6-Speed auto)
No bypass valve here.

Something else I noticed the other day....

My transmission dipstick identifies the "Hot" reading temp as 180*.

Is that what a non-TBV truck dipstick says?

I'll have to look @ mine again , but I'm pretty certain my does not give a temperature. ..

Just an update....

I removed the TBV. Temps rarely go above 135-140 now.

Ha , that's crazy , I was just fixing to quote you and ask for an update

Did you ever find out why your truck had the valve installed ?

Nope, still don't know what specifically triggers the build to include one. Maybe it's in all Canadian trucks?
