To all , in an attempt to gain #s on the 2013 + 6 speed xsmn temps .
Please list your average temps of your 6 speed xsmn .

I'll start .

Winter = struggles to get to 125°

Summer = 135 - 140

Towing = my highest was 155°

Best pics I could get without removing my grill. No tbv in here. I followed the lines all the way back to my transmission and they are a straight shot from the trans to the cooler and back. b496b7a95741e39c2f3268b9dedd210f.jpg9535cb3c520c9cbe816ac6ae62b6d9d7.jpg

Also it looks like the AC condenser part of the cooler unit is on the bottom and the trans cooler is on the top. No wonder the heat bleeds from the AC into the trans cooler!

What the hell, we both have '13s....I wonder what triggered the build to include a TBV then.....

What's your build date on the sticker on the drivers door? Mine has a Dec 2012 build date...

Wait so there were some on 2012s? I wonder if it was only put on California bound trucks??

ATF+4 wasn't designed for temps that hover around 180° or above. The ZF fluid in the 8 speeds was to a point.

I wish my transmission ran at a lower temp. I actually added a cooler in series to the OEM unit without much of a change. This is the TBV on my truck:

That is different than the tbv for the 8 speeds. The ones for the 8 speeds are mounted on the passenger frame rail in the engine compartment.

If that were my truck and there wasn't an electrical connector going to it, that tbv would get bypassed. No need to add heat to a 6 speed. Or the 8 speed for that matter but thats a whole other can of worms.

So you guys DO NOT have TBVs but DO have what I would consider reasonable trans temps :hmm:

I know Mother Mopar thinks 180° while cruising at 60mph unloaded is "normal" but she has been influenced by that sweet sweet carbon credit swag. She can no longer be trusted :roflsquared:

Yes, TBV is shown as being a service part on the '12's.

It's #3 on the diagram...

The thermal management system on the 8 speeds appears to be more complicated....coolant, wiring, voodoo etc.

This system (the 65RFE one) is 100% mechanical, no sensors etc.

It's days are numbered, believe me.

I'm beginning to think that only the 6 speed trucks in colder climates got the TBV. Maybe a build with the block heater triggered the inclusion. I'll be removing mine shortly as I'm not happy with my trans temps while towing.

The TBV bypasses the OEM cooler up to a certain temp at which point it begins to open. It's apparently fully open at approx 180* and allows ATF to pass through the OEM cooler. Once it has cooled the ATF to a certain degree it again restricts or stops flow to the cooler.

I have the 66RFE which is very similar to the 65. I live in Michigan (colder climate) and i do not have an engine block heater and my dealer told me they would not install one ( well my old dealer that i wont go to any more). The 66RFE runs a steady 172 at opporating temp.

Ill look for your TBV that you mention.

It sure is.

Parts diagrams for 2012+ show 3 different transmission line setups for Hemi trucks.....6 speed, 6 speed with TBV and 8 speed.

I'm of the opinion that my truck is working as it's intended to work.....i.e. higher trans temps. I'm just not happy with those temperatures and now I know that trucks without TBVs operate at a temp level that I would be more comfortable with.

That being said, now I'm really curious what option group resulted in the TBV being installed at the factory.
