Which is the better transmission to throw big mods at such as superchargers and engine internals at?

Definitely 8 speed. The 5/6 speed is problematic but there are at least options for keeping them alive now but the 8 speed is a lot more robust even in stock form.

what they said.

the power from the stock hemi felt unpleasant especially with any load, I couldn't imagine putting more power behind a 6 speed then asking it to tolerate a steroid enhanced hemi foot.

I am debating on picking up a bone stock regular cab tradesman 4x2 with a hemi and it has a choice of 3 transmssions the 6 speed and 2 8 speeds. The 845re or the 8hp70 what is the difference in the 8 speeds

With 4.10s, the 5/6 Speed is a very decent tranny. With tall gearing, like 3.55, or 3.21 it does stink, since it has that stupid tall first gear. Don't do WOT downshifts into 4th, and Matt, and others have proven that they are quite durable.

There's an idiot at work with an Allison behind a Duramax, and he managed to tear up the Allison. Try hard enough, and you can Destroy just about anything.

I test drove an 8 speed with the 3.21. I wasn't impressed.

Probably because the 3.21s stink. Hahaha
I have 3.92 on my 8 speed and it rips
Power band is there and at wot it will always be above 5k

Hopefully with Tcm tuning it will be even better with better shift points and a higher stall converter

Once the tuning is available these trans will be light years further than the old 545rfe trans. Anyone not impressed with the new 8spd over the super over glorified 5spd trans (65rfe) is just naive.

I just did a little research and theyou are the same design just different manufacturer. 845re is chrysler build on it and the 8hp70 is the Friedrichshafen build. Personally I would say the 8hp70 is the better choice due to it being used in BMW, iveco, the rams, the chargers, challengers, the 15 aston vanquish, and aston rapide, Rolls-Royce phantom, Maserati Quatro Porter, and various land Rover platforms.

An untuned 8 with 3.21s did not impress me. Period.

I'd like to have a new truck. I drove that truck hoping to be wowed. I wasn't.

However, I will admit there is a ton of potential there. 8/3.92s with a tuner, now that would be cool.

I have the 3.21 gears and I can one tire fire with the best of them. If you are not towing on a daily basis or towing something heavy then 3.21 do fine with the 8-speed. I also have 22 inch rims and before all my mods it was quick enough for me. It's a Ram not a Challenger.

My buddy has a 2012 R/T Ram with the 6spd. Before I did my 3.92 swap, I had 3.21s. I can tell you the 3.21s/8spd impressed my buddy that was sitting behind my truck :p

I had a 6 speed but I discovered that my calves were so atrophied from sipping lattes and painting my toenails in my chaise lounge chair that I lacked the manly strength to press my gas pedal and can't sustain my QoL without an 8 speed. If only someone here had told me this would be an issue before I traded my Prius in for a pickup truck. I hope RAM comes out with tailgates that electronically open and close like my mom's minivan when she takes us to soccer because of my flaccid biceps. Woe is metro me.

The 8HP70 paired with the 3:92 is Very Impressive within a Pickup! Especially towing...

There is zero comparison between the 6sp & ZF 8sp...

I don't remember the total HP/TQ ratings for the 8HP70... Are there actually upgrade parts for this Trans? I have never cared enough to research it..

My '14 was a 8spd 3.21 and is was very quick for a truck IMO. I will be doing 4.10's or 4.56's on my new 6 speed to try and get that grunt back!!
