I am debating on picking up a bone stock regular cab tradesman 4x2 with a hemi and it has a choice of 3 transmssions the 6 speed and 2 8 speeds. The 845re or the 8hp70 what is the difference in the 8 speeds

Old post, but one 8 speed you get with the V6, the other you get with the V8 or Diesel. You don't have a choice. The USA assembled V6 8 speed had teething pains that seems to have been sorted out. The german built V8 8 speed has always been solid, few issues.

You can save ~$2000 and get a 6 speed with the V8, however.

I have both and like the 8 speed much better for driving and towing. The 6 speed is just fine as a transportation appliance, its been around in one form of another since 1999 or so. If you manually set it to 4 or 5 around town, instead of D, its much better.

The 8HP70 paired with the 3:92 is Very Impressive within a Pickup! Especially towing...

There is zero comparison between the 6sp & ZF 8sp...

I don't remember the total HP/TQ ratings for the 8HP70... Are there actually upgrade parts for this Trans? I have never cared enough to research it..

8hp70 has an input rating of 516 ft/lbs of torque, the old 5/6 speed was 410 ft/lbs IIRC (basically maxed out on a bone stock Hemi)

I have never driven an 8 speed, but I drive the heck out of my 6 speed R/T. I have 68,000 miles on it now and have had no problems what so ever. I drive it hard but I take care of the maintenance on it. I believe every vehicle has it's limits, knowing your limits means everything.
